Test match in football

[edit]

The article claims that "Test match" in football refers to a match to determine promotion or relegation. Does someone have an instance of that? I'm not saying it's untrue, but I've never heard that usage. Stephen Turner 10:09, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No reply, so removing this claim for the moment. Stephen Turner 12:33, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I see someone's put it back. I've never heard of it either. Hakluyt bean (talk) 17:53, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not heard of this term used for association football either, the way it is being described would just be called play-offs. It is commonly used in rugby league for international matches. LunarLander // talk // 15:20, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The term 'Test match' is used in several football (soccer) articles. I've changed those links to Test match (association football) due to other sports' usage of the term. Test match (football) now redirects to this page for disambiguation due to use in rugby league, union, and even Aussie Rules as well. LunarLander // talk // 16:56, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
