Helium balloons in the 19th century?
[edit]Balderdash! Helium was not produced in any quantity (more than a few cubic feet) until World War I. Chris the speller (talk) 16:46, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- Helium has been gained in amounts to be able to measure the atomic weight not earlier than 1895. 1905 it has been found for the first time in fossile gas. There fore I correct the first sentence "Tethered passenger helium balloons were very popular in France in the 19th century" to "Possibly ... hydrogen or hot air ..." --Helium4 (talk) 08:03, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
