1. The image in the infobox needs some information to contextualize it. At the very least, it should mention when it was taken (so we know approximately how old he was in the picture) and, if possible, where it was taken. A good caption would be something along the lines of "Tetsuji Takechi at (place/event) in (year)" Same with the image for Daydream; the caption needs to better explain/contextualize the image. Is it a movie poster? The cover of a recent DVD version? An old VHS cover? Etc. etc.
2. The lead needs to conform to WP:LEAD. Specifically, it must adequately cover/summarize all major points/headings made in the body of the article, which is does superficially, but not entirely. For example, there's little, if anything on the "Theater work after Takechi Kabuki," "Entrance into the Cinema" or "After Black Snow" sections. If a person read only the lead, they should be able to understand the topic in its entirety, but not its detail.
3. "His contribution to Japanese cinema consisted of twelve popular, but highly controversial works which set into place both major trends in the cinema, and governmental policies towards censorship." (Entrance into the Cinema) requires a citation
4. The second paragraph of "Entrance into the Cinema" strays in both focus and tone. The first sentence, for example, is not entirely encyclopedic: "To the outsider, kabuki and pornography, the two forms of expression Takechi pursued throughout his life might seem to have little in common." It is more suitable for a critical essay on Takechi than an encyclopedic article. I suggest trimming, rewriting or perhaps even removing this paragraph. The article is long enough as it is and this paragraph contributes little of encyclopedic value (though it contributes a fair amount of academic value) to the article. It strays from the topic of Takechi. The fourth paragraph is much the same, contributing background that, while relevant, is more appropriate for an article such as Pornography in Japan or perhaps something even more specific, than it is in this one. It strays the focus for a second time in one section. A little background is fine, but too much distracts and, if the reader wants to learn about these things, can easily Wikilink themselves to the relevant article. Again, I suggest trimming or removing this paragraph, as it detracts from the focus and flow of the article.
5. The section on Daydream should not be as long as it is; again, it distracts from the focus on the subject of the article. I suggest using the main template, linking to the Daydream article, and then providing a brief summary in this article. My concern here is once again focus; if people want a detailed read on the movie, they can read the article. If not, it's very distracting and Takechi himself can be discussed without the large description in what is, again, already a very large article.
6. "Takechi proved a formidable foe for Eirin" (Black Snow (1965)) is not exactly a very neutral or encyclopedic way of conveying that information. It needs to be reworded.

To allow for changes to be made, I am putting the article on hold for a period of up to seven days, after which it may be failed without further notice. Once all these concerns have been addressed, I will check the references and let you know what (if anything) needs to be done with them. Thank you for your work thus far. References #1, #8 and #58 are the same, and thus should be merged. Same with references #30, #45 and #46, unless you're trying to specifically preserve the quotes, in which case it's fine. I'm not sure that References #18 nor #59 lead where you want them to lead. I don't read Japanese, but I think Reference #21 is broken. References #1, #8 and #58 point to the same source, but, since it's in Japanese, gives the exact quote for easier verification. (#1 gives birth name, #8 publication data, and #58 cause of death). #30, 45 & 46-- similar situation, but for English quotes backing up potentially contentious claims. I have shortened 45 & 46 to the author's last name, with the quote. #18 links to Grove Online, only accessible through subscription (usually from libraries). I'll try to find a print copy later today & fix that, otherwise... not sure... Fixed #21 with good old Internet Archive. Dekkappai (talk) 19:59, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
