Thaçi and Vokshi[edit]

Quoting the article: “Descendants of the Thaçi tribe can be found in Kosovo and the Vokshi tribe stem from the Thaçi tribe.”

It is apparent that the article is claiming that the Vokshi tribe in Kosovo descends from members of the Thaçi tribe in northern Albania, however the village of Voksh in western Kosovo is attested to already in the 1485 Ottoman defter (see “ Defteri i regjistrimit të Sanxhakut të Shkodrës i vitit 1485” on page 343, the google drive doc is easy to find). Furthermore we know that the village name is of Albanian origin, deriving from the word vogël (as is explained in “Emrat e shqiptarëve në shek. XII-XV në dritën e burimeve kishtare serbe” by Skënder Gashi on page 167), so it being Albanized with the Thaçi migration into Kosovo is out of the question.

The issue now is that, we do not know whether Vokshi is its own tribe or part of Thaçi. It’s members identify as Thaç today however if we know that Voksh existed around the same time that Bib Bushati emigrated to malet e berishes between 1450 and 1480, are tribesmen of Vokshi really descended from the Thaçi tribe or could it perhaps have been an independent tribe that was later absorbed into the larger Thaçi tribe? I plan on buying more books and explaining this part once and for all. However the article named Voksh. Indicates that the Vokshi people may not really have been a tribe on their own, but they had to name themselves Vokshi, in order to live in the village.
