  • ... that when Edwin Hunter McFarland couldn't fit all letters into the first Thai typewriter, he left out two consonants, eventually making them obsolete? Source: "On a trip to the United States, Edwin McFarland found a brand of typewriter which had more typebars than the others, allowing more characters, but it was still short of the number needed to accommodate all Thai characters. However, he took a chance, left off two little-used Thai characters, and had a prototype made... The Thai characters omitted from the typewriter have since gone out of use in Standard Thai, a process aided, in this case, by limitations in modern technology." [1]

Overall: @Paul 012: Nice article on such a niche topic. I personally love technical topics, and also as someone from Asia I really enjoyed the article. Well done! BorgQueen (talk) 12:26, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I found the hook in ciation 2 Thai characters exceeded the number of keyboards by 2 characters after trying various solutions without success. So he decided to cut out the consonants " che " and " k " , which are almost no longer used . Siam's first typewriter was finally built in 1892. Bruxton (talk) 19:10, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
