This latter decision was later overturned and King's Meadow Campaign was granted a period of exclusivity of two years to look into the possibilities of restoring the Baths to their former glory and working them as a community trust.

Efforts have been underway to seek partners to carry out the repairs and to create a multi- activity facility, which would mean flooring over the water area in the winter and installing an ice rink for a few weeks. An exciting program of additional community activities have also been planned to fill the bleak winter months.

The summer swimming facility would become flexible and capable of working on demand. Widespread interest was shown for the return of the Baths from the general public and there are such clubs as the open water swimmers who greatly need such a facility to practice in regardless of whether it is sunny or not. Consideration has however been given to adding a heating methods for raising the water temperature from the chilly average of 12 degrees celcius to a more pleasant temperature of around 24-26 degrees.

The intention is that the restoration work will undertaken using a unique community secondment project where young unemployed (NEET's) will be able to sign up for a hands-on experience; where they will be shown new skills and introduced to representatives of companies who may become their future employers.

To cope with the expansion in use of the Baths, an extension to the eastern side is intended to provide a pavilion/café with changing rooms and toilets -hopefully to enhance the aspect of the surrounding park and integrate the new facilities for both football and passing River Thames boaters. It is hoped that the new extension will draw numerous visitors from the neighbourhood to come and eat and relax in the café; at the same time making the whole project self-sustaining. --79.71.231.133 (talk) 00:51, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
