Loose adaptation?[edit]

I've seen several adaptations of Gulliver's Travels, and (other than having Gulliver's fiancé follow him -- to get a female into the story) this one sticks pretty closely to the novel. It pays attention to the satire at the heart of the story, unlike the lavish Robert Halmi production (the first of his "let's ruin the classics" series), which, every time satire threatens to raise its ugly head, pulls back, so as to avoid challenging the perceived-lunkhead viewer.
