No wonder MGM didn't make any effort to take the film off the Internet! The characters are all public domain and were so at the time this movie was filmed in 1955.Glammazon (talk) 22:45, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Financial loss

[edit]

It's possible that the film failed to recover its cost because most of the British stars - Kay Kendall, Robert Morley, George Cole, Alec Clunes, Duncan Lamont - were unknown to American audiences. If Grace Kelly had accepted the female lead might it have been different? The three leading players in 'Knights of the Round Table' and the four leads in 'Ivanhoe' were all familiar in the US. This film is arguably as good as 'Knights'. Color, design, photography, screenplay, locations and performances are all excellent. Duncan Lamont's villainous De La Mark is a standout - with a Transatlantic accent: "I wanna see 'er!" It didn't deserve to fail. O Murr (talk) 07:46, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
