Comments[edit]

It seems this discussion page is not within the Wikipedia guidelines, as it appears to be used for the purpose of attacking other contributors and for personal rants.

The main article on the Angels is very poorly-written. I see, by reviewing the history, that somewhat well-written English has been transformed into broken English, which borders on incoherence at times. That is contrary to the purpose of an encyclopedia. Legibility should be improved and maintained.

As for the content of the article itself:

Statement above[edit]

Why bother writing all that...WP is for articles which require facts, references cited and no NPOV statements. See the following guidelines :

If people can contribute in a good way and follow the guidelines then articles about great bands like the Angel's can be worthwhile reading.

I want you to remove thess silly tags. I am stating the truth, its 100% written by me. Do you want proof, do you want ex Angels member to state they comment in here?

The tags remain until the article is cleaned up, has references cited from 3rd party sources and ensuring that the article is not biased but written in a neutral point of view - all of these points are as per Wikipedia policy....Wikipedia is not a fan site but an Encyclopedia of facts ...nuff said --Mikecraig 04:40, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • My reply

Mikecraig, I did not start ok. Were you here when they re-arrange text? Changing band members names? I had to remove the links from here which were not given permission by the publisher. I am not trying this as fan site, for information this link is some Austrtalian school, and yes I am trying this Encyclopedia.

  • Question

If this does get clean up and someone tries trouble again, what when?

Administrators would keep a eye on the article if there is issues, vandalism and other things. --Mikecraig 05:21, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV tag[edit]

re: the use of NPOV tag - alot of the information in the article seemed to be written in a POV fashion or based on marketing information - needs checking --Mikecraig 23:10, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mike Craig your not Angels fan. Its taken you 6 months to do research on the band and I feel you are putting these tags to course trouble. Also trying to control this bio. The only people who know about The Angels history is me and own of The Angels Band Official Site.

These tags are so silly and you don't need them. What I say in the Profile is all true and I am upset with you.

JUST REMOVE THE TAGS AND NO NOW BUTS

Protection[edit]

Protection has been requested for this article until certain issues are sorted out. References, cleanup and various other edits need to be made and fixed for this article. --Mikecraig 03:27, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What needs to be sorted out?

Firstly, you are still not signing your posts! - sign your statements. Secondly OFFICIAL WIKIPEDIA POLICY states "Encyclopedic content must be verifiable". You have not linked or listed any references to any part of the article. Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Sources should be appropriate to the claims made. Also look at other article for bands to see how the article is structured, having large slabs of text does not make for good editing or reading. --Mikecraig 05:08, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

re: Image:Band-photo-1998.jpg. The use of this image is not part of Wikipedia policy as it is a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the album or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question.

It is to be used solely to illustrate the audio recording in question - NOT the band in question. Need to find and use correct image and tag regarding the article in question. See policy Wikipedia:Image use policy for more information. --Mikecraig 05:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What dribble are you going on about, firstly could not understand most of what you wrote, secondly the OFFICIAL WIKIPEDIA POLICY for image use is very clear regardless of what "excuse" you wrote. Follow the rules and all is good...simple --Mikecraig 22:28, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You still need to learn how to sign your posts. Secondly, I did not "delete" the image, it has been removed from the article as it does not meet the wikipedia policy for the image used. re: Image:Band-photo-1998.jpg - "The use of this image is not part of Wikipedia policy as it is a cover of an audio recording - It is to be used solely to illustrate the audio recording in question - NOT the band in question." YOU need to find and use a correct image that meets Wikipedia's image policy and apply the correct image/copyright tag. See policy Wikipedia:Image use policy for more information. Nuff said ! --Mikecraig 00:56, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mikecraig is correct here. A fair use image cannot be used simply as a representation of a living group/person. Any image on Wikipedia for which a free use image could be obtained is likely to be deleted. For one, no fair use rationale has been given on Image:Band-photo-1998.jpg (see Image:XLounge3.jpg for an example). This is a requirement. Secondly, this is a violation of image policy for a fair use image to be used as a representation of the group. As such, it should be removed from the article and deleted. An album cover may only be used to illustrate the album itself. - auburnpilot talk 03:32, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder number 8 - You still need to learn how to sign your posts it's not hard!. In regards to other Australian band images used, this will be looked at and if they breach official Wikipedia policy such as Wikipedia:Image use policy and fair use rationale, then it will be dealt with accordingly (and I am sure WP admins will agree) --Mikecraig 05:53, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding your "deleted" statement made above - it was not "deleted" as you so claim, it was taken off the article (this means the image still exists on Wikipedia but is not linked to The Angels article) as it breached WP policy as per admin advice from AuburnPilot. --Mikecraig 05:57, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Reminder number 9 - When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. --Mikecraig 23:08, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

Have started cleanup by breaking up the history by era's (1970s, 80's..etc) to start making it easier to read. --Mikecraig 23:43, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Coundown[edit]

Just using the link Countdown (Australian TV series) as a reference is not correct as then looking at the Countdown article, this is all it says regarding The Angels:

"Countdown was crucial to the success of many leading Australian acts, including AC/DC, John Paul Young, Sherbet, Skyhooks, Marcia Hines, The Angels..." etc.

Not correct as a reference as per WP guidelines - Wikipedia:Verifiability --Mikecraig 06:35, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Countdown helped AC/DC, John Paul Young, Sherbet, Skyhooks, Marcia Hines, The Angels..." etc.

Copyright claims and information[edit]

User 192.102.239.195 has made claims of "Breach of copyright from Rock and Pop Encyclopaedia" for various sections and information. Wanting to explore this further to see what merit this has? --Mikecraig 02:48, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which "Rock and Pop Encyclopaedia"? McFarland's or McGrath's? I'm guessing it would be McFarland's as McGrath's has been OOP since about 1985. Even so, with proper referencing it wouldn't be a copyright violation if reworded slightly, would it? Anyone know how to reach Ian McFarland? BrianFG 00:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Liberation music[edit]

Is Liberation Music the same as Liberation Records? I thought it was. My bad if it's not. BrianFG 01:41, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They are different, LM is an Australian label started by Michael Gudinski and part of the recorded music division of Mushroom. LR is a US firm from what I understand. --Mikecraig 01:59, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks BrianFG 00:31, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Gudinski, left Festival Records and moved to Sony Music and bought the rights to Liberation in 1999. They was a great bio in Sunday Herald about his new record label. Libration Music is 100% Australian own and is not relate to US record company. The label once was with Sony, Univeral, Warner. Liberation Music left Warner Music in 2002. The record company has ex-Festvial Mushroom staff and directors. Brent Eccles is General Manager of Liberation Music in New Zealand. I did ask Liberation Music if you are apart of Warner, they reply was NO.

John Brewster left band in 1986[edit]

  • It should read like this on the bio

John Brewster last gig with The Angels a double at the Meyer Music Bowl and The Palace on 27 January 1986. From 4th edition of Live Line.

  • This is just a guess

John Brewster left the band in late 1985.

  • Did Mike Craig read inside notes in Live Line I guess not

Live Line[edit]

Did Mike Craig listen Live Line to disc 2 when Doc Neeson says "hello from New Zealand" I guess not, the 10 bonus track were recorded in New Zealand and Mike Craig deleted it maybe he didn't bother looking at Live Line 4 edition that state were all tracks were recorded I did. The Angels bio has a lot errors.

Doc Neeson[edit]

Doc Neeson attended Flinders Drama Centre Graduates and did course in acting not art as state in the bio you re-arrange Mike Craig http://www.flindersdramacentregraduates.com.au/actors.htm

I came to Flinders to study Drama in 1971, and was lucky enough to spend the next three years under the guidance of Professor Wal Cherry and his remarkable team. Amongst my peer group were Scott Hicks and Kerry Heysen, Gale Edwards, Martin Armiger and Bernard "Doc" Neeson.

Why is Doc Neeson not listed as a member of the band in the quick facts?!! I'm no expert, but he was the lead singer. 152.37.100.45 (talk) 19:47, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bob Spencer left the band in 1993[edit]

Bob Spencer last gig with The Angels was at Gembrook Oval Dandenong on 24 January 1993. From 4th edition of Live Line.

Angles at the Opera House[edit]

I noticed in the article on the Angels that during their New Year show at the Sydney Opera House, that a riot broke out and one of the Angels was hit by a bottle

Both facts are incorrect. The behaviour of the crowd all night had been terrible. Rolf Harris left the stage after only three songs because of the number of missles being thrown. It was actually the Lady Mayoress of Sydney who was struck by a bottle (No injury) during the Lord Mayors speech. A bag of ice was thrown at Angels the bass player. It went through an adverstising sign before hitting him and knocking him to the floor. Doc was hit by a piece of shrappnel that spun away from the sign —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.107.76.202 (talk) 07:12, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mushroom Albums[edit]

The article states that Howling was released by their new label, Mushroom. The previous album, Two Minute Warning was the band's first album with Mushroom in 1985. --202.67.94.166 (talk) 11:27, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Early Years[edit]

In November 1970, brothers Rick and John Brewster formed The Moonshine Jug and String Band. In 1971 the band was joined by Belfast-born Doc Neeson, an arts student and former Army sergeant and already a prominent figure on the Adelaide music scene. The band performed at university campuses and in 1973 released their debut EP Keep You on the Move, which made the top 5 in Adelaide. This was followed in 1974 by the single "That's All Right With Me". Both these releases were on John Woodruff's Sphere label. Woodruff went on to become the band's manager for most of its career.

It read this way

In 1971 Belfast-born Bernard "Doc" Neeson joined the band. B.A. (Hons. Drama). He once served in the Australian Army as Sergeant. He was a prominent figure on the Adelaide music scene at that time.

MOONSHINE JUG AND STRING BAND first rehearsed in the basement of St Mark's Church, with 9 members, but eventually cut back to just 5 as their sound and style evolved.

High praise[edit]

The article says the chorus, "No way, get fucked, fuck off... in the context of the Australian sense of humour this was recognised as high praise." It's funny, and has developed into an in-joke taken in good spirit by the band and audience alike, but it wasn't and isn't "high praise" in the context of sense of humour elsewhere.

Change of membership[edit]

Dave Gleeson (Screaming Jets) is now lead vocal, John, Chris providing backing vocals. they have a new drummer (name unknown). I saw this band a few hours ago. They have announced a new album to be released 2012 with current line-up | Rick, John, Chris, Dave, Unknown(drums). 124.148.32.144 (talk) 16:21, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Red back fever[edit]

Could any of you help with a confirmation/source/denial of this old edit on redback spider? The lyrics around the web don't even seem to have much connection to spiders. What am I missing? (also @User:Apostrophyx) --99of9 (talk) 03:10, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Chant[edit]

I've removed this segment from the 2010 section

In November 2007 on Rockwiz (SBS), Neeson claimed that the origin of the audience chanting "No way, get lost, fuck off" in response to the line "Am I ever gonna see your face again?" was from the crowd at a Mount Isa Blue Light Disco, although it is unclear if this is accurate as Neeson was quoted in the 1980s Australian music publication "Smash Hits" as saying it originated in Far Western NSW.

Because

1. The chant is incorrect, it's "No way, get fucked, fuck off" 2. It's unreferenced 3. It conflicts with the chant section below, which is more comprehensive and has references.
