Requested move 23 January 2018[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: consensus not to move the page to the suggested title at this time, per the discussion below. The capitalization correction that was carried out during this discussion appears to be uncontroversial. Dekimasuよ! 04:58, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled Cloverfield SequelCloverfield 3Untitled Cloverfield Sequel is inappropriately vague. We have Cloverfield (film) and 10 Cloverfield Lane, and it is not immediately clear by itself that "Untitled Cloverfield Sequel" means the second film or the third. There is no official title for this film, and reliable sources currently use the colloquial title Cloverfield 3. Wikipedia should follow suit with these sources until an official title is announced. • I disagree. The second film is called "10 Cloverfield Lane", so I don't see how one could confuse "Untitled Cloverfield Sequel" with that one. Rickraptor707 (talk) 04:38, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The title needs to be considered by itself. You already know about these movies, but not all readers do. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 18:11, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose "Cloverfield 3" would sound like an official/common name when we're given none. ToThAc (talk) 14:32, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The opening sentence will make clear that it is a colloquial title. That is what we have done before when a title is just temporary. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 18:11, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. No official name for the film at present, so we need to leave at a descriptive title. --woodensuperman 09:10, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's not descriptive enough. By itself, it looks like it can refer to 10 Cloverfield Lane. We should not assume that all readers know about both movies. "Cloverfield 3" is a proper colloquial title that indicates that there have been two movies before it. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 14:21, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, it can't refer to 10 Cloverfield Lane, as that isn't an untitled film. We could call it Untitled Cloverfield film if that would help, but Cloverfield 3 implies an official title, which is far more misleading. --woodensuperman 14:34, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Readers who know nothing about these movies don't know that distinction. We do because we've seen these movies. "Untitled Cloverfield sequel" on the face of it looks like it means it is a sequel to Cloverfield. "Cloverfield 3" is acceptable because it is clear on the face of it that there are two previous movies to know about (especially if the readers don't know about them). In addition, "Cloverfield 3" is the common name being used by reliable sources. That policy does not support the claim of avoiding a title looking official. So "Cloverfield 3" is both properly descriptive and commonly used. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 14:45, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you think "sequel" is misleading, we could just use "film". It is an untitled film in the Cloverfield franchise, so Untitled Cloverfield film can't be accused of being misleading. However, here are a couple of sources calling it "Cloverfield sequel", so they don't think it's misleading: [1][2] --woodensuperman 15:15, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I know it's WP:OTHERSTUFF, but Untitled Avengers film, not Avengers 4. --woodensuperman 15:18, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. An official title will be confirmed when it's announced. Until then, this is a perfectly cromulent title for the article, and only unclear if you're actively trying not to understand. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 18:28, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - 10 Cloverfield Lane has never been referred to as Cloverfield 2, and such nomenclature would be inaccurate given the tangential and indirect nature of its relation to the first film. A change from "sequel" to "film" in the title may be more appropriate here for the same reason - we don't know yet to what extent this new movie will tie in with either of its predecessors. 78.19.159.111 (talk) 16:25, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Finalized Title[edit]

The title may have finally been leaked, ScreenRant is reporting the possible title as Cloverfield Station: https://screenrant.com/cloverfield-3-real-title-cloverfield-station/

The page for the Cloverfield franchise as a whole already lists that as well for what it's worth. 63.152.100.159 (talk) 21:02, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiled the interest to see the movie[edit]

This article should not have been posted before the movie was broadcasted at the cinemas .. just saying! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.230.57.99 (talk) 21:55, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is unlikely to have a theatrical release given that Netflix deal terms. Also see WP:SPOILER. --Masem (t) 23:03, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
