US Release Date[edit]

Hi Lugnuts - thanks for creating the article for this wonderful film! I'm curious where you found the US release date of Oct. 11, 2014. This page [1] on the film's official website, shows that the film originally premiered in the US at the New York International Children's Film Festival, which was held from March 3-30, 2014. According to the official website, the film did indeed screen at the Tacoma Festival around that time. However, since it had already premiered in the US several months earlier, I'll go ahead and switch things around. If the film had some sort of general US release, outside of festivals, then that would probably be relevant enough for inclusion as well - unsure though, whether or not I should include the first date for the Oscar-nominated short film compilation screening. --Jpcase (talk) 15:49, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts: Well, unfortunately, I can't find an exact date for the film's screening at the New York festival - how did you determine that October 11 was the date it screened in Tacoma (as opposed to the other dates of the Tacoma Festival)? I've done a few basic Google searches, but haven't turned up anything yet on the NY date. So I've just said that it screened there in March 2014. --Jpcase (talk) 18:06, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, in a sort of a roundabout manner, I can at least verify when the the film was screened, although I still can't properly reference it. After a lot of digging around, I found this blog post [2] by someone who saw the film at the NY festival. He says that it screened with the second set of shorts - "Shorts 2". I also managed to find this page [3], that includes a partial schedule of the 2014 NY festival. Although the schedule doesn't mention The Dam Keeper by name, it informs that "Short Films Two" screened on March 22. --Jpcase (talk) 18:26, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts: I just started reading through this article [4] from The Japan Times and am perplexed by its statement that The Dam Keeper was released last October. Do you remember why you chose to incorporate the Tacoma Film Festival date, instead any of the dates for earlier festivals? Was it simply the only date that you had come across, or was there something particularly significant about that festival? It seems that the film must have had some sort of notable release in October - it wasn't the US premiere, nor was it the Japan premiere. It couldn't have even been the first public cinema screening, since according to the Japan Times article, that didn't happen until December. Mashable as a Source[edit]

I've decided to use this article [5] from Mashable as a source. It seems that Mashable is right on the line of reliability. Discussion at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard has leaned toward deeming it unreliable, though I'm not sure any definitive consensus has actually emerged. The reason that I feel comfortable using this particular article as a source, is because its author, Samantha Murphy Kelly, has been published and featured by several reliable third-party sources, including CNN, ABC News, CBS News, NPR, BBC, and The Wall Street Journal. --Jpcase (talk) 15:16, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
