Referring to Lili as a "husband" is transphobic
[edit]Closeted trans women are still women. They are typically wives, not husbands (despite impressions by others!). Misgendering the character of Lili is unacceptable. June-tree (talk) 23:17, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- The article is about the film and the situation it presents at the time it is set, not about contemporary views. The film clearly presents Einar at the start as Gerda's husband, and they are legally married with Gerda's husband being Einar. Gerda regards Einar as her husband. The whole point of the film is the transformation of this husband into a wife.Sbishop (talk) 08:06, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
- That's not how being closeted works. Are you trans or have close friends who are? I am and do and can tell you quite plainly: a closeted trans woman is still a woman.
- Surgery, clothes, etc. do not make the woman. Her transition is the point of the film, but her being a woman is true the whole time. June-tree (talk) 06:27, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
- I didn't say that she wasn't a woman. The article is about the film, and the film clearly presents her as her husband in both social and legal terms, not as her wife.If you think that it should be changed to 'wife' you should get consensus here. Sbishop (talk) 07:39, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
