Alton Delmore won a guitar contest as part of a fiddlers convention held at Clements High School in Limestone County, Alabama in 1926. His selection was a rendition of The St. Louis Blues. (This information is stated in Alton Delmore's autobiography, Truth Is Stranger Than Publicity, edited by Dr. Charles Wolfe.) This appears to be the first recognition of lead guitar, and flatpicking as part of old-time music and contests. With extensive use of alternate picking and much faster tempos, the Delmore Brothers were the first country artists to establish the flattop guitar as an instrument capable of playing lead, and playing without accompanyment. The article has a lot of information on the life of the Delmore brothers. The grammar is also well written. However I think a few more pictures would be nice. A better reference source would be nice to add also. There is also a huge section missing on playing with Arthur Smith. An original discography will help readers know how often the recorded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnsonnc2 (talkcontribs) 17:51, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
