Separate article for The Dial Press

[edit]

I would like to author an entry for the Dial Press, I just completed the processing of the Dial Press records at the Yale Beinecke Library. I am confused about the claim that the Dial magazine founded the Dial Press. As far as I can tell, and I read a lot of information in the records, they were always distinct. I would like to propose that this page link to a Dial Press entry that I could put together.

I've removed the redirect so The Dial Press is now an article in its own right. Stumps (talk) 05:18, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

founders?

[edit]

Specifically, who were the people who founded the Dial? Was it both Margaret Fuller and Emerson? Were there more people involved in the original idea? If so, who? 66.32.217.17 (talk) 22:36, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It depends what you mean by "founders," exactly. The Dial was founded at a Sept. 18 (?), 1839 meeting of the Transcendental Club, and though I don't know if the exact list of attendees of that meeting is known, most of that group's membership were either active contributors or involved in discussions about it. Elizabeth Peabody was the publisher for some of its 1840s run, so she might deserve mention. To be more specific I'd need to do a little more research than I have time for at the moment. -- Rbellin|Talk 02:37, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look here or at Myerson's The New England Transcendentalists and the Dial for more information. -- Rbellin|Talk 02:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just created an article on Merrill Rogers. According to this source, Rogers played an instrumental role in restructuring The Dial and was a member of the managing board as well as working on The Dial's staff. If anyone wants to dig further and find a way to incorporate his contribution into the article that would be great. Best.4meter4 (talk) 01:57, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
