Fair use rationale for Image:Palacecast.jpg

[edit]

Image:Palacecast.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Cast

[edit]

I took out Christine Baranski because I never saw her on the show. Maybe her character was originally planned for the pilot, but was written out before taping. FotoPhest (talk) 23:58, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We should look for sources to confirm this.Dwanyewest (talk) 00:48, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RfC: Should a reference to Alexei Sayle being dropped from the cast of the Golden Palace before the pilot be included in the show's article?

[edit]

The consensus is to keep the sentence:

British comedian Alexei Sayle was originally hired for the series in the role of the hotel's chef, who he was to have portrayed as an Eastern European,[1] but was replaced by Cheech Marin before the pilot was shot.[2][3]

References

Editors determined that the sentence was properly sourced and was not undue weight. Cunard (talk) 05:02, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Should the following sentence remain in the article on The Golden Palace? "British comedian Alexei Sayle was originally hired for the series in the role of the hotel's chef, who he was to have portrayed as an Eastern European,[1] but was replaced by Cheech Marin before the pilot was shot.[2][3]"192.235.252.195 (talk) 16:42, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Include - As mover. Background: An editor keeps removing the line using the unsupported pretext that it doesn't belong. The claim that information about the casting of the pilot "does not belong" in an article is unsupported and appears to be the editor's personal preference rather than Wikipedia policy. The information in question is sourced, the comedian in question is notable, and there are certainly many other examples of references to casting decisions prior to shooting a pilot being made in various articles about television programs so the removal of the sentence appears to me to have no justification other then personal preference. 192.235.252.195 (talk) 16:36, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Note—The "Support" comment above is from the original poster. AldezD (talk) 12:15, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose—There are thousands of television show articles on Wikipedia, almost all of which have casting information. Some have information detailing cast changes during production, but the vast majority do not contain information about cast changes from pilot to air—unless there is some otherwise notable controversy or related justification to mention casting on a pilot which was later changed. Additionally, the Chicago Tribune source detailing the casting of Sayle is mentioned once within the article and appears as WP:SIGCOV in no other WP:RS when performing a Google search. The second reference you list in this discussion does not meet guidelines in WP:RS or the essay WP:IS since it appears to be the actor's personal website and not an independent source. AldezD (talk) 12:26, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment—In addition, the second ref linked to Sayle's personal site states he was "fired…before the pilot had been shot", meaning he was not present in a recorded scene after production began. AldezD (talk) 14:27, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment I've now added an additional source, the Washington Post, which notes Sayles was replaced be Cheech Marin.[3]192.235.252.195 (talk) 11:47, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment—Still, the point stands that someone who was cast on a pilot but was later replaced and who was never part of a scene recorded for the pilot or an episode does not need to be mentioned in the cast section of a television show article. In the reference you added, it includes one mention of Sayle: "Marin replaces Alexei Sayle, originally cast as the chef..." This is not notable or constructive information. Additionally, the ref you added today was already included in your original RFC above (but was not present in the article previously). AldezD (talk) 13:10, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment See Star Trek: Voyager#Actors "Geneviève Bujold was cast as Capt. Janeway but quit a day and a half into shooting the pilot "Caretaker" and was replaced by Kate Mulgrew" 130.63.211.66 (talk) 16:11, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment—Quitting "a day and a half" after shooting began (in Bujold's case) is entirely different than a replacement before production started, as what happened with Sayle. Additionally, the Actors section in the target article is WP:LISTCRUFT. AldezD (talk) 16:55, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment You're splitting hairs. The fact is a) he was cast and then fired b) he's a notable figure with his own Wikipedia article c) it's a sourced fact with credible citations from the Chicago Tribune and the Washington Post and d) it's only one sentence so there's no undue weight. e) You haven't been able to cite any policy to justify the removal of this sourced information. Can you give us anything other than personal preference? 192.235.252.195 (talk) 18:51, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Here are a few examples of a reference to an actor being replaced before shooting began:
Reply—Whether Sayle quit on his own or was fired is not information stated in any links you have provided. Notability on Wikipedia and having his own article does not translate to inclusion of this information within this television show article. The casting process for films is entirely different than being cast on a TV show and dropped prior to production starting. Regarding the three links to television show examples above (The Incredible Hulk, Broadway Open House and Petticoat Junction), all three of those statements are unsourced and should be removed from those articles. I'm not going to remove it again, but reference to Sayle within this article is not appropriate based upon precedent in cast sections within the vast majority of television show articles. AldezD (talk) 19:40, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Reply - The reference to Sayle being fired (rather than simply replaced) is acceptable under WP:RS as it is a self-published claim about the author himself that is not self-serving etc). Again, please cite specific policy to support your position that the reference is "not appropriate". 192.235.252.195 (talk) 20:14, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Include; summoned by bot. The information appears to be sourced properly, and merits inclusion (or in other words: its removal is not warranted by any policy, rather it stems from a disagreement by two editors). I would suggest copy editing the passage, though, as it appears to be written by a non-native speaker. I suggest the two bickering editors above desist this petty argument. • Inclined toward inclusion: I don't feel strongly about this either way, but I'm not aware of any policy-based reason to exclude it, as noted above. It's a single sentence that does no harm with its inclusion and may be of interest. I reserve the right to change my opinion based on arguments others may raise. DonIago (talk) 13:17, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Include - It's sourced, the actor is independently notable, it's already mentioned on the actor's page, and the proposed content is not unduly long or intrusive. I don't see a persuasive argument for not including it. Argento Surfer (talk) 12:50, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Camp Town Races Episode

[edit]

A mention of this episode should probably be made somewhere considering it went viral within the last couple of years. Should be plenty of coverage to include it. Will look around. Wanted to see what others thought first. ObservantSpectator (talk) 09:22, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Added a note about this episode under a new subsection in Production entitled Notable Episodes (where more episodes can also be mentioned) along with several sources. --ObservantSpectator (talk) 07:00, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
