Suggest moving to: The Good Doctor (US TV series) or (2017 TV series)

The Korean TV series article at Good Doctor (TV series) comes up if you search for "Good Doctor" without adding "The" suggesting this is not enough of a differentiation. ZarhanFastfire (talk) 14:44, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

Edit to illustrate religious basis of story keeps being removed

Someone keeps obnoxiously removing an edit that explains the Abrahamic religious ideology of the show:

"The show is heavily based in Abrahamic religious themes, primarily Jewish and Catholic. An orphaned child, Murphy is said to have "unknowable" mystical powers as a young male physician and magical healing hands on which the camera focuses at the end of the first episode. The arguments presented for his inclusion on the staff by his mentor, Dr. Aaron Glassman, are based in Abrahamic themes of "righteousness" in this magical young fatherless male of "unknowable powers" being promoted, in the style of Moses or Jesus. Dr. Glassman, when questioned, is unable to explain in any more detail why he is promoting the young man. A double-sainted (Saint Bonaventure and San Jose) Catholic hospital is the site of the "good doctor" and his magical healing. A female, Dr. Claire Browne, in the style of the Marianism doctrine of the Catholic church is used to mediate between Murphy and the rest of the characters."

No explanation has been provided for removal of the edit. It is an accurate summary of the story and its basis. 71.218.56.16 (talk) 00:00, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

You have not provided any sources for your claims. It is never said nor thought that Shaun Murphy has "unknowable mystical powers", also this information does not belong in the premise section. - Brojam (talk) 00:05, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi! You can absolutely add this, but it can't just be something that you or people you know have observed. Wikipedia is (in essence; there are more details) a collection of the summary of *published* information. If you can show that this information that has been published in reputable and/or mainstream publications, just add it *with* the source you are drawing this description from. (Personally, I like subjective and original concept wikis, but this is Wikipedia, and it's the "pedia" part -- meaning "encyclopedia" -- that applies in this case. The wiki part is the process/software used to write it.) JabberWokky (talk) 09:21, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Episode 10 - "Sacifice" Summary

It seems a bit long. If you want to edit it to make it say what I said only in a more concise manner than by all means go for it. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 16:01, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not censored

I'm challenging this edit by User:Brojam as a violation of Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, specifically Wikipedia is not censored. Any objections before I revert that unjustifiable deletion? --Coolcaesar (talk) 19:09, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

That information about the direction of the helicopter is completely trivial and Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. In addition, WP:MOSTV states that technical errors should generally be avoided, unless it is a major mistake that is discussed by a reliable source, which this is not. - Brojam (talk) 02:36, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
Has a reliable source mentioned this? If not, than it doesn't need to be in the article. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 19:16, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
Did either of you actually read the edit at issue? The information is cited directly to an article published in the Mercury News. You do know that's the daily newspaper of San Jose and Silicon Valley? We're talking about the newspaper serving the 10th most populous city in the United States and the most populous city in Northern California.
Again, Wikipedia is not censored. The fact that The Good Doctor is careless when it comes to the details of its ostensible setting is true, verifiable, neutrally stated, and sourced. --Coolcaesar (talk) 04:21, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
But is trivial information really necessary? Lots of shows have errors, but you don't add it to their articles. Why is this so necessary? If you want a second opinion, go to WP:TV.Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 16:49, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Irene Keng

Irene Keng played Dr. Elle McLean. She only appeared in the pilot. Why is she listed in the main characters? Is she going to be back in the second season? If not, than she should be listed in the guests. It seems redundant to keep her in the main characters list when she appeared in one episode. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 07:25, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

Episode Summaries

I wrote a summary for last week's episode, "Smile," which was within the guideline maximum length of 200 words, but was longer and more detailed than the other summaries in the table. Melonseedy subsequently edited it to about half its original length, consistent with the currents lengths of the other episode summaries. However, this had the effect of eliminating the resolutions of most of the storylines, which is an issue with the other summaries on this page as well. While Wikipedia plot summaries are supposed to be of limited detail, I believe that they are supposed to cover the setup, development, and resolution of each storyline included. I was able to rewrite the summary to include the resolutions without increasing the length. However, the resulting summary is less detailed than I would usually write; I included the technical details of the medical storylines, and then the interpersonal storylines, but I omitted almost all of the interpersonal information regarding the medical storylines, which is not consistent with the screentime dedicated to the storylines within the episode. I also noticed that these especially brief episode summaries are not a longstanding, stable consensus on this page; Melonseedy and an IP user edited many of the summaries on March 16, bringing them to their current lengths; prior to those edits, many of the summaries were in excess of guideline length and therefore in need of edits, but I believe the edits went too far, predominantly in removing character detail from the medical storylines and in removing the resolutions of many storylines. I'm not sure to what extent I'm interested in going back and rewriting older summaries, but I would like to restore my previous, longer summary of "Smile" (or at least a longer version than what's currently in the article; I think I could find a middle ground), and write a similarly detailed one for the season finale. How do other editors feel about that? What type of episode summary has consensus support on this page? --DavidK93 (talk) 20:39, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

I have no objections to returning to your original summary with maybe a few words less since it was at 206 words. I find many of current summaries are severely lacking details; many seems more like a synopsis or premise rather than an entire plot summary of the episode. I would have reverted/tried to cut down on the long summaries, but have not manage to find enough time to address this problem; so if you anyone has the time to do so that would be great! - Brojam (talk) 03:25, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
The last version before Melonseedy's edit was 206 words, but my last version was 197 words. I've just published a 136-word version that mainly restores the character development of Beatrice, the imposter patient. I decided that much of the detailed information about patient Gretchen was not as relevant. --DavidK93 (talk) 13:20, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

Creating article for episode list.

As there is not enough content to split away to a separate article, and there is nothing in MOS:TV that supports splitting after a second season, refer to creating a draft for a LoE, instead of splitting the article. WP:SPLIT

Sheila Kelley

With Sheila Kelley's character now being the love interest of Dr. Glassman, I am moving her up to recurring characters. By the criteria, she has been in enough episodes to be a recurring character. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 07:02, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

Third season dates inconsistency

The Production/Development section says season 3 will premier on September 23, 2019. The Production/Filming section says filming for season 3 is expected to end March 3, 2020. The cited sources appear to confirm both statements. Which is correct? —Bruce1eetalk 05:57, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

I would say both would be correct because sometimes TV series are still filming the season while airing the same season (this happens more often then you think at least for non-cable TV series and non-streaming web TV series). I recommend taking a look at previous seasons and their filming dates. — YoungForever(talk) 06:15, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
As far as I know most series run a June/July to March/April filming schedule and September to May airing schedule if it's got a full 20+ episode season. So I don't see anything out of the regular here. TheDoctorWho (talk) 06:38, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for both of your replies. You're right – a season will often start before filming is complete. Sorry, I didn't think of that. —Bruce1eetalk 06:42, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

I think the earlier end for the filming means it'll probably be another 18 episodes. Most shows seem to finish late March/early April if they have a full 22/23 episodes. Esuka (talk) 12:07, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

Adding a country of origin tag

The page for the South Korean show on which this show is based is listed as 'Good Doctor (South Korean TV series)' on the disambiguation page and the page for the Japanese series is called 'Good Doctor (Japanese TV series)'. Is there a reason why this page is not called 'The Good Doctor (American TV series)'? Is the 'The' in the title considered enough differentiation, or is it a standard that English-language or American shows are not identified by country? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BookManiac42 (talkcontribs) 01:47, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Yes – as per WP:SMALLDETAILS, this show's title includes "The" which is enough to disambiguate it from the articles on the other two TV series listed (which do not include "The"). So "U.S. TV series" is considered "unnecessary disambiguation" in this case. Now, should an article on a second TV series with the title "The Good Doctor" emerge, then this article will likely need to be moved to either The Good Doctor (U.S. TV series) or The Good Doctor (2017 TV series)... --IJBall (contribstalk) 04:38, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
I do not agree with you, IJBall. Why? If you look at the article about the current format of Wheel of Fortune, you'll see that its title specifically says "(U.S. TV game show)" as opposed to having another country's tag. Then why shouldn't this have something like "(US TV series)" added to the end of the article title? --Fandelasketchup (talk) 20:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
The answer to that is obvious, if you just look at Wheel of Fortune#Television – the two situations aren't even remotely comparable... --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:23, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Is "San Jose" part of the hospital's name?

Apokrif (talk) 13:30, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

Yes, it is. The hospital name is called "San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital". There were scenes that showed the building with that name as well. — YoungForever(talk) 15:39, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

Season Pages

When do you think separate Season pages will be made?

The Good Doctor (TV series) (season 1) The Good Doctor (TV series) (season 2) The Good Doctor (TV series) (season 3) The Good Doctor (TV series) (season 4) Lonniemitchell22 (talk) 05:33, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

Right now, they are too soon as the Production and Reception sections will not have enough information for season articles individually. — YoungForever(talk) 22:34, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Notable guests

It says two or more appearances in the series for notable guests. Irene Keng appeared in the pilot only. With it saying two or more appearances, that would mean she should be off the list. I checked the archive and see no discussion on this. Is it consensus on Wikipedia as a whole? I feel like it's not. Plus, if an actor has a Wikipedia article, they are probably notable. Adam Beach is quite notable and appeared in one episode as Billy Carr on season 4 episode 4: "Not the Same". Lindsey Kraft, Lochlyn Munro, Arlen Aguayo-Stewart, and others have articles thus are notable in some way. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 04:14, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

"The Good Doctor" on Crave

As you may or may not know, Crave is a Canadian streaming service. They add seasons after it airs. But I can't find sources stating when the first season was added. Any assistance would be great. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 07:49, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Spoilers

The fact that Dr. Meléndez dies at the end of Season 3 was a huge spoiler for me and I think that kind of information should not be included in the Cast section, but maybe I'm overreacting. Siempre Carlos (talk) 12:42, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

@Siempre Carlos: As a guideline, Wikipedia considers spoilers to have the same weight as any other content that is considered unspoilered. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:47, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
in fact .. all characters descriptions are full of spoilers .. I donno who wrote this page or why .. this is a relatively new show and not everyone has seen it SamiHajjaj (talk) 12:34, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

can somebody remove the spoilers ?

in almost all characters descriptions .. their fates in later seasons are casually listed as a facts ... character X is this and that, by end of season 3 she/he dies !!

this is a relatively new show and is still active .. spoiling its characters like that is just bad

at the very least put a spoiler warning SamiHajjaj (talk) 12:38, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

Per WP:SPOILER, It is not acceptable to delete information from an article because you think it spoils the plot. Wikipedia contains spoilers and removing them is considered to be disruptive editing. — YoungForever(talk) 23:27, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
