Intro

[edit]

I've always heard the intro as: "A preachment, dear friends, you are about to receive ..." etc., etc. as opposed to "I preach, my dear friends ..." Preachment, while not technically a word, is exactly the sort of utterance you'd hear in the Appalachians or the deep coastal south, referring to a sermon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.154.0.161 (talk) 16:38, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

a blip in history

[edit]

As much as I enjoy the handful of tracks released by The Hombres, there's really very little (known) history with which to work. Once I reorganized the article, it became very apparent that almost all of the band's history (and thus the legacy of its individual members) is a matter of tracking one single, which has its own article.

(However, the album of the same name does NOT have its own article; instead, the track listing has washed up at the end of the "band biography," namely this article. Couldn't this material be given its own space, perhaps boosted by sales data and reissue info?)

Reasonably, most of the content of The Hombres therefore properly belongs in the other article, though this would gut the present article to almost nothing. I'm presently looking into liner notes (for original LP as well as subsequent CDs), but this is not a high personal priority so anyone is welcome to sieze this project!! I'd also recommend any contemporaneous press in the band's home region.

Further questions for even a basic article: How did the band form? Did they ever tour? How long did they remain together? Where/when was their first gig? Were they regulars anywhere? Where/when did they play their final show? How did they break up? Did they ever formally disband? How did they feel when theirlegacy reappeared in pop culture? How much did they make from licensing?

I have answers to all of these questions as Gary is my father. He is the only surviving member of the band because June 30, 2023, Jerry Masters passed away. You can find Gary as Rev. Gary McEwen, now a retired minister and continues to write songs for his own entertainment. 69.130.153.45 (talk) 13:39, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
