Any word on a console release of this game? I haven't heard anything but I would like to know. -

---

All the boss enemies in the House of the Dead game series are named after the Major Arcana of the Tarot. After four installations of the game, only three card names remain unused - The High Priestess, the Devil and the Moon. This is just speculation on my part, but I believe that the Devil would make a good name for a final boss, if there was a fifth installation. I mean, in the game's previous stories, people have "sold their souls to the devil" in return for great power. The Devil could be a culmination of Dr. Curien's work as the ultimate incarnation of evil. As for the other bosses, I believe at least one previous boss could be re-used (such as the Magician in House of the Dead 2) but I am not sure which one.

---

In my personal opinion, based on the storyline, it is very likely that The Devil will be the final boss if (although it is almost beyond doubt) HOD5 is released. The World fitted Goldman's way of thinking, as he wanted to "protect" nature and glorify hope; he wasn't at all concerned with eliminating humankind completely. Clearly, the focus of the fifth installment will rest on the Mystery Man. As we have seen in the past two games, his view of mankind is much more sour; he wants to destroy it and leave nothing behind. The Devil could would be his ticket to fulfilling his goal. Instead of bestowing upon the world a shrill hope, it would represent ultimate anarchy and armageddon.

If for some reason The Devil does not make it as the final boss (its name could very easily be applied to a boss of the first chapter), I believe HOD5 could complete a cycle for the game as a whole. With each installment, we see continuing trends: Rogan shows up in the first three games (G in all four), The Magician is a boss in some form or another, if not then at least a reference (The item for higher score, genes and photo reference in III), and Curien's influence lives on from the beginning. The fifth game could resolve all the unanswered questions and finally put the undead to rest permanently. We still do not know for certain the fates of the remaining AMS agents from 2000-2003 and the players in HODIII. When HOD5 is actually released, I truly hope to see the faces of the missing characters. It would be interesting to at least see allusions to their whereabouts, although I am convinced that someone is the Mystery Man.

---

Interesting theories, now that I think about. The final bosses of each game in the series represented the main antagonist's desire at the time. This desire would usually be countered by a basic human trait the villains often miss.

  • The Magician represented Dr. Curien's desire for ultimate power. Ironically that power would destroy him, since neither he nor any human could control it.
  • The Emperor represented Goldman's desire to regulate humanity and protect nature. The human need to control one's own destiny countered this.
  • The Wheel of Fate (the resurrected Dr. Curien) represented Dr. Curien's wish for an unchanging tomorrow, a place where he could live in the past forever. The human need to move on towards the unknown future countered this.
  • The World represented Goldman's final message for the world, as well as to emphasize the need for unyielding hope.

As for the Mystery Man, Harry Harris could be a canditate, though it could just as easily be an entirely new character. Harry Harris was the only character I could recall who was injured (by Strength in HotD2). Although nothing was said about how bad the injury was, it might have been enough to retire him from the AMS. He could have become embittered by his injury, blaming the world for his misfortunes.

Complete Story of the House of the Dead

More than a few have been confused and/or curious about the story plot of the various games of the House of the Dead series. I have decided to write it here for use in the games' description, so others may use it as they see fit. I have written the characters' names in bold in order to clarify the details. For now, I have decided to not write the stories within the games themselves, since I will be concentrating on connecting the games. Based on others' writings, Japanese Sega reviews and speculation, here is the story:

Several years before the 1998 Curien Mansion Case (the story of House of the Dead), a young boy named Daniel Curien fell ill with a sickness that was diagnosed as incurable. Daniel's father, the celebrated scientist Dr. Roy Curien, decided to dedicate his considerable skills in biochemistry and genetics to find a cure for his son's disease, even if it costed him his soul.

Eventually, Dr. Curien made contact with the mysterious DBR Corporation, headed by its CEO, Caleb Goldman. In exchange for details and regular updates of his experimental research, Dr. Curien would receive funding, equipment, and materials from the DBR Corporation. A number of scientists employed by DBR would also aid Dr. Curien in his research. Desiring to keep a close watch on his son, Dr. Curien converted his palatial family mansion into a makeshift research facility where he could work on Daniel's condition.

Several months later, Dr. Curien realized the basic principles of the nature of life and death. Deciding that this was the answer to curing his son, Dr. Curien continued to refine his research into life and death. Recorded details of these experiments were few, but many of the DBR scientists who worked with Dr. Curien were so appalled by these experiments that they left the project. These scientists described experiments that involved reviving dead organisms, altering the genetic structures of various creatures, and combining human DNA with that of animals and/or plants.

Although Dr. Curien himself questioned the morality of his research early on, he gradually lost his grip on sanity as his research progressed. Eventually, Dr. Curien forgot his original goal of curing his son's disease, to be replaced with a burning desire to change the world forever with his revolutionary discoveries. One day, he released his experimental subjects - cannibalistic zombies and mutants - into his mansion, catching the remaining DBR scientists off-guard. Among these scientists was Sophie Richards.

The government agency, AMS, had watched Dr. Curien activities for months but was not able to learn or prove much until the DBR scientists began to disappear. When it was suspected that something went wrong, two AMS agents, Thomas Rogan and G, were dispatched to investigate the Curien mansion. The mission was more personal for Rogan, since Sophie Richards was also his girlfriend. The mission would later be called the 1998 Curien Mansion Case.

(events as described in the game the House of the Dead 1, assuming the best ending involving Sophie Richards' survival)

After the death of Dr. Curien and the defeat of his experimental prototype, The Magician, Rogan and G reported their ghastly findings to the AMS. Shortly afterwards, Sophie quitted her job as a scientist and married Rogan. They would later have one daughter, Lisa Rogan, in the year 2000.

From Dr. Curien's recovered journals, the AMS discovered the involvement of the DBR Corporation in Dr. Curien's research. Realizing that the DBR Corporation may also have the capacity to create undead, the AMS sent G to investigate the DBR Corporation, in order to prevent a repeat incident.

Meanwhile, agents of the DBR Corporation recovered Dr. Curien's body, taking it to the EFI research facility, started and owned by the DBR Corporation for the purpose of researching and producing undead. There, Dr. Curien's body would undergo an experiment that he himself began, an experiment that would take two decades to complete. Dr. Curien's son, Daniel, was also taken to the facility, to be eventually cured of his sickness. The research started by Dr. Curien was continued under Goldman's secret direction. For years, Goldman believed that humans were destroying the world they lived in. He wished to bring balance to humans so that they would no longer be a threat to nature and themselves. In Dr. Curien's research, Goldman finally found a viable method to make his goals a reality.

When Goldman learned that the AMS was investigating his activities, he realized it would only be a matter of time before the AMS moved against him. Deciding to make the first move, Goldman released a horde of zombies and mutants into the town of Venice. Additionally, Goldman gives an order to eliminate the AMS agent G, who managed to escape as far as Venice.

Receiving G's request for backup, the AMS sends the AMS agents James Taylor, Gary Stewart, Harry Harris, and Amy Crystal to investigate Venice, where strange happenings are reported, and rescue G. The mission was later be dubbed as the Goldman Incident.

(events as described in the game the House of the Dead 2, assuming the best ending)

After the deaths of Goldman and The Emperor at the Goldman Building, the DBR Corporation began to collapse as the world gradually learned of its role in the Goldman Incident. Although the DBR Corporation was finished, the legacies of Dr. Curien and Goldman would live on, as the AMS would discover in the future.

Once the investigation of the DBR Corporation was complete, the AMS believed that the true threat was averted and decided to close the case permanently.

In the years to come however, a general sense of unease pervaded the world governments. Details during this time were sketchy, since most of it was hushed up, for fear of inviting disaster and panic. Secret investigations were authorized to discover the source of these strange occurences.

In 2003, AMS agents James Taylor and Kate Green began a private investigation concerning the aftermath of the Goldman Incident. During this time, they went to collect intelligence from the AMS European branch office in London. While the agents were in one records room, the entire complex shook violently, trapping the agents in the room. Later speculation decided that a missile containing a virus struck the city of London, wiping out most of the inhabitants and reanimating them as undead. Several of the DBR's secret experimental subjects were also released into the city, likely at the hands of former agents of Goldman.

(events as described in the game the House of the Dead 4, assuming the best ending)

After James' heroic sacrifice and the end of The World, global stability and civilization began to collapse, but humanity was allowed to survive.

Kate, an AMS agent who survived the 2003 London Incident, reported to her superiors about the disaster at London and what was found at the Goldman Building. All this showed that Goldman's intentions for the world may possibly stretch as far as the next century, along with the plans and resources necessary. All AMS agents, including Rogan and G, were assigned to investigate and destroy all possible sources of the undead menace, including known agents of Goldman. However, as an government institution, AMS was eventually disbanded, but many of its agents continued to search for an answer.

Finally, in 2019, the existence of the EFI research facility was uncovered. Due to its secret, remote location in a wasteland, the EFI facility had fallen into total disrepair since the collapse of its sole sponsor, the DBR Corporation. At some point, the undead at the facility escaped confinement and all the facility's staff fell prey. The only known survivor of this was Daniel Curien, now a 29-year old man in good health.

Rogan decided to personally investigate the facility, taking with him a team of elite commandos, in case the worst happened. What they found was a horde of undead striking from all directions, slowly eliminating the team until only Rogan and one commando were left standing. It was around this time that contact with Rogan was lost.

Two weeks later, Rogan's 19-year old daughter, Lisa, and G decided to follow and rescue Rogan, as well as complete his mission.

(events as described in the game the House of the Dead 3, assuming the best ending)

With the death of The Wheel of Fate, the past was finally put to rest and the world could finally look towards its future with hope. Presumably, Daniel would now take his place in the world, while the mission of the AMS was finally completed. The official story ends here, though the activities of the Mystery Man have not yet been accounted for.

Well, how was the story? Enjoy! --Chameleon.

Okay, I just beat HOD4 and got an S rating on the boss fight with The World. Normal ending blah blah blah... Goldman's message... Then he says "Hope is such a splendid thing" but it zooms in on his face. It's obvious that he's been zombified, by the markings on his face and the quality of his eyes. Yes, his trademark sunglasses are off. This was the THIRD time I beat the game in two days, and this only happened after getting an S rating on the battle with The World. Can anyone elaborate upon this? --- Pumeleon (Not Chameleon, There's some Puma, in there, too.)

---

Pumeleon, have you gotten at least an A rating in every stage of the game? Unless you do, the highest rank you will get is Rank 3 - Expert Agent. You will need at least an A rating on every stage (and Rank 2 - Top Agent) in order to get the better endings. --Chameleon. --- Plus, the ending depends on your final score as well. like the other ones. ---

HOTD2 took place in Venice, which as many know is the name of a town in Italy. In HOTD2, the DBR headquarters are within short driving distance. Yet in HOTD4, which takes place in London, DBR HQ is also not very far off. Am I missing something here? --Gs68 01:16, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Isn't this a bit presumptuous?

From the article:

If so, it will probably be the final game in the series, as there are only three unused card in the Major Arcana, which is used to name the bosses of the HOTD series

If they did decide to make more after HotD5, I don't think such a little thing would stop them. They'd probably just use something else to name them after. Tranced Shadow 14:18, 7 March 2006 (UTC) Tranced Shadow

Yeah but I hope not, I loved the names of the bosses, they seem so... well made, in fact I have made names myself.... which you don't need to know.

Boss of House of the Dead 5

04:18, 3 September 2006 (UTC)70.29.57.197First of all most people assume that The Devil is the boss because of the name, but look at this, when I heard the name Death, I assumed IT was the boss not The Wheel of Fate. I would like to see that the last boss of HotD 5 is either Pandora's box or The Deck it self: they both would be the same, as in like The Emperor's attacks, mimic randomly one boss, I think that might be fun. If not it better be a version of The Magicien Type 0000 I mean that guy rocks!

BTW someone is the mystery man himself, I mean look at the facts, someone has the leg injury, and if you haven't noticed all bad guys in this series have shades, (yep, just look at pics) now Jonathan is the only other character. left with mysterious person. He's the older brother of Dr. Curien and uncle of Daniel Curien.

---To whom ever changed into Johnathan Curien--- Don't change other's posts, if you think its Johnathan, then say so, there is no need to change my post.

I've noticed

That Curien seems to like having 4 bosses, but Goldman has usually 6 bosses. Excellent, I wonder what someone's preference is.

---

I think the odds have 4 bosses, and the Curien story. The evens have 6 and the Goldman story. I'm assuming that HOTD5 would have Lisa Rogan, and (if there is one) HOTD6 has Kate. G generally appears in every game, playable or not.

--- Yeah, since they are running out of cards, but still I'd like to see multiple, bosses. I have House of the Dead 2 On my comp, and I like the fact that there are 6 bosses, makes it more fun.
