The article begins, “The Ipcress File is a spy thriller television series based on the novel of the same name” - is this the case? It appears to be based on the film, as it shares elements that were created for the screen version which don’t appear in the book - for example, that Palmer is working off a prison sentence in Dalby’s service, and even the fact that he is called “Harry Palmer” (the protaganist remains un-named in the book; he is called “Harry” at one point by another character, but says to the reader that that isn’t his name, although it might once have been). There are deviations between all three (Palmer is a sergeant in the forces in the film, and a corporal in the TV version), but it might be better to say that the TV series is based on the book and the film, or is based on the novel, but incorporating elements from the screenplay?
