Howard Stern Call on Hogan Appearance

Guys I , JailbirdT removed the part about the so-called Sheik's call in Howard Stern show with Hogan because it simply was not him, for the love of God, it was one of Howard's Crew. Jeez, pay attention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.64.227.215 (talk) 02:37, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

the pic is misleading because Iranians don't really wear scarfs on their heads - im not sure why he wore it (its not a part of Iranian culture) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.123.161.210 (talk) 06:05, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

10 thousand

rumors that bit was staged for publicity. Guests on The Howard Stern Show are not paid; however, Iron Sheik alluded that he would receive $10,000 from Howard Stern, and actually won $2,500 in a contest referred to as 'Anal Ring Toss'. <<<--- its a known fact that for the show "gets" (people who they really want on but are hard to get), for people who for some reason need $ to appear, the $10,000 dollars given to some non celeb non porn guest (porn stars never get paid cause they get plugs) has been giving on there show for a long time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.98.5.60 (talk) 05:48, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

question about an Olympic medal

Although Vaziri was often billed as an Olympic Medalist, a search of 1968 medal winners would show that this was a "work". That isn't to say that he wasn't an accomplished amateur wrestler. Of course, separating truth from fiction in the world of pro wrestling is seldom an easy task.

His supposed Olympic background has frequently been discussed on the message board of Wrestlingclassics.com, which is an excellent source for finding what is legitimate and what is worked.

Added link confirming his lack of Olympic medal

The official Olympic website has a solid database of who won which medals during each Olympics. For 1968, Iran won several medals (including one gold in freestyle wrestling), however none of the medals were one by anyone by the name of Vaziri --I simply added the link to the text, adding nothing else. --- Bobak 19:38, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

On that subject, how could he have won a medal at the "1968 Pan American Games" if a. there were no games in 1968, and b. he didn't emigrate to the US until later? The Pan Am Games are limited to nations from the Americas, and they are held the year prior to the Olympics (e.g., 1963, 1967, 1971, etc). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.97.69.26 (talk) 17:30, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Quotes & Humbleness

Do we need the things about humbling people and fucking B Brian Blair? Bdve 01:44, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

You're disrespecting the Iron Shiek. He might come and break your back....

Apparantly he's not a fan of Andre either http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rz9-frvSuTw&search=iron%20sheik NightShade 01:54, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Why was he on jerry springer. Saying that he was popular and appeared in his name and boots are intresting facts, but appearing on jerry springer is traditionally a very bad sign.

I don't think he's Iranian.

I recall reading a looong time a go in the Boston Globe that the Sheik was stopped by the police and had to give his real name, which was not "Ali Vasari" or anything that sounded Iranian or Arab.

what was it then? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.46.141.127 (talk) 17:46, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Weasel Words

May 5, 2003: Iron Sheik's daughter, Marissa Jeanne Vaziri age 27, was found strangled to death, in her apartment.. 216.235.137.114Marissa's live-in boyfriend, Charles Warren Reynolds, 38, confessed to the crime and was charged with murder..

I cannot find the news article on this, but I can confirm it. I worked with his other daughter Tanya. (Although I am sure this is a violation of "own research" rule.

Shouldn't this be redirected to Iron Sheik?

Not to state something too obvious, but no one knows who Khosrow Vaziri is, but everyone knows who the Iron Sheik is. DandyDan2007 00:48, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Requested move

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the debate was PAGE MOVED per discussion below. --Philip Baird Shearer 13:20, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Khosrow VaziriIron Sheik (or The Iron Sheik) — Vaziri has been known as The Iron Sheik for over 25 years (except for a brief period in 1990-1991 when he was Colonel Mustafa. It's the name he uses when he makes public appearences, including his frequent radio appearences. TJ Spyke 08:13, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Survey

Add  # '''Support'''  or  # '''Oppose'''  on a new line in the appropriate section followed by a brief explanation, then sign your opinion using ~~~~. Please remember that this survey is not a vote, and please provide an explanation for your recommendation.

Survey - in support of the move

  1. Support as nominatior. TJ Spyke 08:14, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
  2. Support it's the name he's known by 99% of the time MPJ-DK 09:43, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Support It is the name he is best know as. Also regarding the oppose comment Shaquille O'Neal did not use the name Shaq exclusiveitly in regards to him NBA career as is the case for the Iron Sheik and his wrestling carrer. The comparasion is invalid. --67.71.77.144 04:24, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
  3. Support. According to WP:NCP "The most used name to refer to a person is generally the one that Wikipedia will choose as page name", which should really be the final word here. Too many pro wrestler articles in Wikipedia violate this policy. - Conniption 16:26, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
  4. Support See below--Philip Baird Shearer 13:25, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Survey - in opposition to the move

  1. Oppose as long as this stage name is not used to the exclusion of his real name. Shaquille O'Neal is known as Shaq much of the time, but that doesn't belong as more than a redirect, and the same is true here. Indexing the redirect would eliminate any perceived problems. Gene Nygaard 20:20, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Shaq is just the nickname of O'Neal. Vaziri has only used Iron Sheik in public for over 25 years (except for a ~1 year period when he was Col. Mustafa). This would be more like Snoop Dogg. TJ Spyke 22:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
  2. Oppose This is an encyclopaedia and should have the guys's real name. I know he goes by the Iron Sheik moniker professionally but we're not writing an Apter mag. He isn't really a sheikh, he didn't really want to destroy Hogan and take the title back to Iran, he wasn't really going to sodomise Brian Blair in the middle of the Pontiac Silverdome in front of the biggest wrestling audience of all time. At least I hope not... Suriel1981 01:49, 17 February 2007 (UTC) Wikipedians love the Sheik!
There is no policy or guldine that says that we should use real names. In fact WP:COMMONNAME supports the move because he is best known as the Iron Sheik. Also there are other people who are not listed uneder the real names such as Snoop Dogg, Ice T, and a few other wrestlers one of which is Hulk Hogan. I have also yet to see any of these moved because of the possibility the use of their stage names would cause people to think that their personas were 'real'. Anyone reading the article would reaize that was not the case. I don't think that is a valid reaon to oppose and as mention actualy policies suppoprt the move. --67.68.154.181 00:21, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Discussion

Add any additional comments:

This was on the margins particularly as one of the opinions expressed was by an IP address which I will not consider in the survey section. However I will go with the majority in this case and accept the move as it does not contravine the WP:NC policy. --Philip Baird Shearer 13:25, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

This probably sounds like a crazy debate to have, but the recently deleted "Michael Richards Conflict" was removed on the grounds that it was "not needed and probably not true." I saw the clip on Iron Sheik's site, and he did in fact make those statements. Whether it's "not needed," however, I guess can be up for debate. But the copy is factual.Anthony71 02:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Robbed and Hospitalized

This bulliten was just posted on myspace.com by whoever it is that runs his myspace account:

This past week, The Iron Sheik was short changed on a series of appearances last week in Canada, which led to him being robbed of the money he was paid and later hospitalized. More info on this horrible incident later tonight. Don.-.J 20:16, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Removed content

I have removed this content because I felt it had no real biographical nature about it. I also thought it was inappropriate to have on the page. Govvy 10:18, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Content that was removed

On May 6th, the Sheik verbally attacked the Ultimate Warrior at a fan convention in New Jersey. [1] According to reports, the Sheik's agent thought it would be a good idea for the Sheik to approach the Warrior and shake his hand. When the Sheik did so, the Warrior said that he would not shake a hypocrite's hand. This made the Sheik livid, and caused him to launch a tirade against the Warrior and Sheik's own agent, Eric Simms. The Sheik removed his coat and asked the Warrior, "Do you want to do anything about it?" When someone at the Warrior's table threatened to call security, the Sheik responded with, "Fuck you and fuck the security!" The Sheik then turned his anger on Simms, calling him an "asshole" and telling him that it was his fault the incident happened since he was the one who asked the Sheik to come shake Warrior's hand. After Simms repeatedly asked him to calm down, the Sheik slapped him hard across the side of his face and said, "Don't fuckin' tell me again son!" The Sheik slowly walked back to his booth (walking with a noticable limp) and could be heard screaming obscenities as he did.

YouTube Citing

I can understand the policy of YouTube being a questionable source of proof, as it is largely homemade videos. However, shouldn't an interview with the man, speaking the words attributed himself, be an exception?

disambiguation with rapper

To the person who keeps messaging me

Yes yes I have received your messages, please give it a rest now. There are much worse articles to be looked at. The angelfire.com references have got to go and I think we all know why, but this is hardly a problem article, as opposed to 99% of the rest of the biographies we host. Burntsauce 23:30, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Car Accident?

Under the heading "2007", there are the words, "for the first time since the car accident." What car accident? This is the only reference to a car accident in the article. 56.0.143.25 18:44, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Bad Writers Making Edits

Guys, if you're going to edit this page, please make sure you know what you're doing. Almost every day I see people coming to this page and making edits that sound awful. You all know what I'm talking about. If you don't know how to write, don't make any edits to this page. Whoever added all of that info about the Sheik hating Hulk Hogan just because he is friends with Brian Blair obviously didn't have a clue how to write. It ruined the entire flow of the article. So please, if you're going to make changes, be careful and make sure you know what you're doing.Rkodavey 20:47, 18 October 2007 (UTC)RKODAVEY

Hogan and Sheik have also gotten along with one another as well. In fact, in Hogan's autobiography, Hogan says that Sheik went backstage to congradulate him, and their is a You Tube video showing them standing together at a 2007 convention tooKevin j 20:27, 22 October 2007 (UTC).

To go along with this, there need to be better citations. For instance here we call him Khosrow Vaziri where actual news articles call him Hossein Vaziri. (check the citations). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.244.63.215 (talk) 23:59, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Wrestling Family Relations

Although I'm not sure of the veracity of this, The Iron Sheik claims that his cousin is The Sheik (Ed Farhat) and his nephew is Sabu (Terry Brunk). He can be seen claiming this here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cshkiZ00ThA&feature=related. The page should be updated to reflect his information.129.120.244.157 (talk) 03:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Iron Sheik

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Iron Sheik's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Question

I can understand not wanting to cite YouTube links, but there are sentences here without any citations at all. Why are they still allowed to be on this page? 98.204.186.88 (talk) 00:51, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Birthday?

Someone put his birthday as March 15, 1943 and sourced it to beenverified.com... and the age there still doesn't add up. Everywhere else I'm looking says he was born on March 15, 1940. Granted, I can't verify that either, but I see even less evidence that the birth year is 1943. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.243.40 (talk) 02:08, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Shoot Interviews

"he later gained popularity on Kidd Chris, The Howard Stern Show, and on the Internet due to his shoot interviews and outbursts on the wrestling industry and the hatred he expressed for various wrestlers."

If this is important enough to be included in the header, it seems like something that should be explained in the actual article, but I don't see any further details. It's too bad, because this is exactly what I came here curious about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.23.40.34 (talk) 16:55, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
