Lost Highway page

[edit]

I notice that on the 3rd Osvillager added a link to the official Lost Highway page, which was subsequently removed by Stellmach. It seems to me that having a link to their record label's page about them is useful, why was it removed? Adam McMaster 10:50, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was not moved. There is no consensus for a common name, will keep as is until agreement develops. Teke (talk) 17:48, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jayhawks (band)The Jayhawks — "The Jayhawks" is the real name of the band, as I think pretty much everyone would agree. But if you want to write in favor or against this proposed move, you can do so here. Korny O'Near 14:55, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - in support of the move

[edit]
  1. Support. Well, this is seeing more resistance than I thought it would. I obviously support the move, but let me respond to the two points raised against it. The first, about the basketball team, is irrelevant, since "The Jayhawks" is already just a redirect to this page; if that team's article should be moved, that's a separate issue. The second, about the "the" often being lowercased, doesn't really hold water; do a web search on "the beatles" to see how often that band's name is given a lowercase "the". Their article still has the "the", as does just about every other band with that kind of name. Plus, note how the name appears on all their album covers. Korny O'Near 16:00, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - in opposition to the move

[edit]
  1. Oppose The university of kansas men's basketball team holds quite a bit of notablity. The name should be a disambiguation page or a redirect there. 205.157.110.11 21:24, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose. Most uses both on the article and in other sources refer to the band mid-sentence as "the Jayhawks" as opposed "The Jayhawks", which suggests to me that the definite article should be left off. Chris cheese whine 04:18, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose but move to The Jayhawks (band) instead. PC78 14:02, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:The Jayhawks-Tomorrow the Green Grass (album cover).jpg

[edit]

Image:The Jayhawks-Tomorrow the Green Grass (album cover).jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:02, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The use of the image on this page doesn't qualify, since we should be able to find a free image of the band, so I've removed it from the info box. Adam McMaster 11:10, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Founding History of The Jayhawks

[edit]

The information in regards to the founding of The Jayhawks on this page is incorrect.

Please stop changing the information back to incorrect information.

It should read:

The Jayhawks were formed in 1984 by Mark Olson and guitarist Caleb Palmiter. Mark and Caleb played a number of gigs together billed as The Jayhawks and included songs in their setlists such as "Let The Critics Wonder", "Martin's Song", and "Clouds".

The band was not founded by Olson/Louris/Perlman

Contact his wife Ingunn Ringvold at: mail@coralringrecords.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by TruthandJustice (talkcontribs) 23:41, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

TruthandJustice, do you have any references, other than somebody's wife, that verifies this information? "She told me so" is not a valid source of information. We need independent reliable sources. As a side note, talking in ALL CAPS is considered shouting; please refrain from doing so in the future. Primefac (talk) 23:44, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Contacting Mark Olson's wife is not reference enough for you? How about I put you in touch with Mark Olson's Aunt and his mother? I can do that too. Mark Olson is the member of The Jayhawks that is married to Ingunn Ringvold. He founded the band in 1984 with Caleb Palmiter. Contact her for verification at: mail@coralringrecords.com

As a side note, refusing to contact said above mentioned references for verification of facts is considered denial; please refrain from being a denier in the future.TruthandJustice (talk) 06:22, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That is not how Wikipedia works as Primefac noted. Please see citing sources of information in the guidelines and other handy guides.Airproofing (talk) 16:30, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
For the second time, TruthandJustice, without proper references you cannot significantly change pages like you have done here and at Mark Olson (musician). Both of these changes have been reverted, and will continue to be reverted until proper sources are provided.
On an unrelated note - if there have been more than one person using your account, that needs to stop immediately. Sharing of accounts is not allowed per WP:NOSHARE. Each person editing Wikipedia needs their own account.
Finally - as a matter of etiquette and courtesy, please do not change other people's comments on talk pages. If someone asks you to do something, and you do it, don't remove the request from their comments. It's inappropriate. Primefac (talk) 02:12, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Contacting Ringvold will add very little to the article. She only recently married Olson and is likely to provide a skewed opinion on events. According to this article there has been a festering conflict between the founders of this band. Letting that spill over into the Wikipedia is both undesirable and bordering on wanton vandalism. WP:COI warning left on the editor page. Karst (talk) 09:43, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How about a picture of Mark Olson and Caleb Palmiter together on a promo used to hang up at their gigs in 1984? I can provide this when I come home from work. It was taken by his mother Mariana. She was studying photography at the U of Mn. I will try to find a way to get this picture onto this page, even though the way wiki set up is so NOT user friendly. It is ridiculous. You are not getting rid of me insisting on the truth being in the public eye. If after you witness this picture, you continue to harass Mark Olson as the founder of this band, then I will be forced to take social media and lawyer worthy measures upon this situation, and I don't think you want this to happen. Have a good day.

As the above contains a legal threat, a report has been filed with administrators here. I will refrain from any further comment until the discussion there has been concluded. Karst (talk) 12:54, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The list of members of this band here on Wikipedia already includes Caleb Palmiter, but does not acknowledge this person's founding role of this band in 1984. When the band made their first commercial album, Caleb was no longer a member, and The Jayhawks name eventually became owned by Olson, Louris and Perlman. Because of this, even though Louris and Perlman were not the original founders of the band, the consensus was that all 3 were the original founders, and so internet sources refer to this as accurate. At this time, the only document available to prove the correct founding history, is a black and white glossy promo band photo of Mark O. and Caleb P. The remaining current members of the band have agreed with Mark and Caleb, that Mark O. and Caleb P. were indeed the original founders of the band in 1984. Is it possible, that if written documents attesting to this agreement as fact are obtained from Mark O., Caleb P., and the remaining band members, would this satisfy and ensure definite documentation for this Wikipedia page?
