Sorry about Al Jazeera thing - I could find no reference to his actual name, and must have mis-heard the film. Thanks for correcting me.

Having seen this film on the weekend, I'm pretty sure the Jewel says "That is not the Sufi way." Hence, he is a Sufi, which can be included or excluded from traditional Islam depending on your point of view. - Brenden Dannaher, 18 October, 2006

Clarification/Opinion[edit]

Having read one of a series of introductory books on various subjects, the one on Sufism in particular makes it clear that it's adherents consider themselves Islamic, and Muslims, but that it seems to be mainly strict fundamentalist views of Islam which decry Sufism as heresy /apostasy, or whatever; e.g. Wahabbism, Salafism.

Personally, I agreed with the author in Q., because they certainly dressed like Muslims, albeit more modern or Westernised ones, they worship in Mosques, and venerate the Prophet as the founder of Islam.
