Needs more background. About all we have is a plot summary. RJFJR (talk) 15:32, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Plot cleanup: plot really needs to be rewritten from scratch

[edit]

I have cleaned up the plot summary (I did not post the cleanup template), but it seems to me that whomever originally wrote this simply didn't understand the story on a very basic level. In fact, the lead for the Yue Lao article has a clearer synopsis in a single paragraph than this entire article does. This article fails to connect the dots at all, missing the point that the creature in Godfrey's pocket is a servant of the Xin, which is itself an amorphous monster formed from many spirits made flesh. In fact it fails to explain in even the vaguest terms what the Xin is, or why the characters are horrified that Yue-Laou "brings it forth", whatever the heck that's supposed to mean. It also fails to give any weight to Barris' tale of artificial gold makers, who are later revealed to be the servants of Yue-Laou, and fails to give the slightest significance to the "Chinaman" that the narrator and others have seen in the woods who is actually Yue-Laou. In fact, the plot summary might as well not exist at all, for all the clarification it gives us. It really needs to be completely rewritten by someone who has read the thing recently and understands it. 207.155.212.66 (talk) 23:03, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
