Curious about ratings

[edit]

If anyone comes across what kind of numbers the show gets, please add it to the article. 24.46.63.94 03:08, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well..... according to Ray Gordon over on ASF everybody must be watching it and the world is about to End! oh noes... Mathmo Talk 03:18, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
After reading the a.s.fast newsgroup, I would conlude that Ray Gordon has never made an intelligent statement regarding this show.. or anything, for that matter. --BleachInjected 11:01, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, was saying that as a joke.... anyway, there are more reliable numbers in the article now than what Ray says. Mathmo Talk 03:16, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone know if this show is going to be renewed for another season? 161.38.1.250 14:57, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Colours

[edit]

Took out my last thing since the page looks nice. (: Also, I'm changing Spoon's indianred to brown. If anyone doesn't like that (if it's too dark or something) then revert. It's just that the coral and the indianred are too similar, in my opinion. Or whatever colour I have. And the brown looks red. o.0-Babylon pride 03:01, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is the purpose of deleting the non-breaking space characters in the color key of the call-out order? Without nbsp entities, the colors don't render at all on Mozilla/Firefox. Absent swatches, this seems the best way to display the colors. So please, drop an answer here if you feel the need to revert these changes again. -Warren M 19:52, 08 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is that directed at me? I'm assuming it is since it's directly under my post. I'm not doing that, I don't think, since I have Firefox and I preview things before I post. So... yeah. If I am, sorry. I just try to replace the colours people change. -Babylon pride 22:40, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, sorry. I just posted it under your "Colours" heading because it was relevant to colors. If I had been replying to you, I would've indented my post, as you've done. Sorry for the confusion. -Warren M 23:16, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Medallions

[edit]

Anyone know anything about the symbols on the medallions and what they may mean? --Mongrel 02:37, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They're all Norse runes. The one handed out last week was Laguz. Åtte 12:14, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiler warnings?

[edit]

I propose that we add in spoiler warnings before the chart that show who was eliminated when. Nairanvac 22:02, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not necessary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.92.177.254 (talk) 01:15, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A very compelling argument. No seriously, why is this not necessary? I had to read the page very carefully to avoid spoiling my season 2 experience. Spoilers would be appreciated. --Astat (talk) 09:23, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contoversy section

[edit]

I put in the bit about the actress from The Kill Point being Christine Evangelista but I'm not sure there is hard evidence that she is the girl appearing at 35:23 in episode 1 although they do look very similar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tim333 (talkcontribs) 19:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There were a lot of Austin community guys going out to see mystery and just pick up girls. Mystery asked us to stop coming, and it assumed this was because VH1 wanted to show a lot of normal guys who weren't good picking up girls, instead of a bunch of PUAs in the background with girls. So, the fact that Tynan and other guys were there was because we wanted to see Mystery, not because of any planning on VH1's part. Somebody should fix this, since it currently implies VH1 knew there were other PUAs in the club.

Can anybody provide a link for mystery asking to stop coming? (or was this just asked in person?) Mathmo Talk 09:41, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not only did VH-1 know there were actors/PUAs in the club, they knew there were MODELS in the club as targets. One of the models got pissed when she didn't get the acting credit she was promised and posted about it all over. Another target was shown to be Evan, Herbal's ex. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.81.95.92 (talk) 05:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The controversy section doesn't explain where the things mentioned were discussed as being controversial. Шизомби (talk) 17:00, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other discussion

[edit]

Charts wrong guys. and the whole alvaro being an acter, should stay in controversy, why be added to his description?

It seems to have a negative view point on the validity of the show.

More research may need to be done regarding Brady's work as a model. His profile was listed when he was 20 and he is now listed as 24 years old. Also the link doesn't seem to be available from the main page of the modeling agency anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alipphardt (talkcontribs) 18:55, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I didn't know rhat I could discuss here about the topic of the extrnal link here, so anyway -

I think that the link is very important. today there is no other site that give a leagal and comfortable way to see the episodes. there are a lot of pepole who want to see the show that do not have VH1 (like me) here is the utiltimate place to find such a link where they can see the hole show. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.132.168.85 (talk) 11:59, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The external link does not meet Wikipedia guidelines for external links. Specifically: It does not contain any resources that are not already present on the linked official site. It violates Restrictions on linking 1.: Sites that violate the copyrights of others, as well as Links normally to be avoided 1. does not provide a unique resource and 9. documents that require external applications (such as Flash or Java) to view the relevant content. I dig you , but, you can see clearly that in the vh1 site its too complex to understand how to see the hole apisodes and here they arranged it with only the episode -making it much comfort for everybody. why to make it harder to people to find? there are places that we should exmine more carfully than the strict rules. I really believe that it makes the visits of this article more happy life because they do not need locating the parts of the episode in the offical site, that is a mess.
think about it like that, is this usfull for a person who just ran into this article/episode for the first time in his life - where he will manage to see the show?
The reasoning in short is described under the offical policy What Wikipedia is not. It is not a mere collection of external links or an Internet directory. dissolvetalk 21:23, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
how many articles violet this terms with their external links in the name of relevent to the article and the visitors - is wiki for the people or for computers with a lot of rules. this site (the-pua.co.nr) is more than relevent here because it's represent the show. stop giving me rules that were given for robots and gambling sites that are tring to spam! and I didn't see someone that remove that link bisides of you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.132.168.85 (talk) 00:19, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mike Long

[edit]

What are you kidding me? The link for Mike Long goes to some Magic the Gathering professional game player. Whoever edited this article must have been really eager to wikify the page, or the Mystery Method must apparently have a thing for hiring card players as representatives.

Whatever the case, look up Mike Long here on Wikipedia and you'll see that the PR representative for the MM does not have a page, and I wouldn't classify his position as notable enough to merit an article either. --PolskanPUA (talk) 04:13, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

agreed, he shouldn't be linked to but I can't see his name anywhere on the page now anyway. Mathmo Talk 04:58, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Season 2

[edit]

Shouldn't this be a separate page? And the description of the show itself reads like a VH1 promo, and the contestant descriptions seem like they're copied and pasted from the official site. Could we get something a bit more objective, please? Cespence17 (talk) 22:38, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

there is only 2 seasons in total so far, and the article page is not getting that long. Yet... However if they should start a 3rd season then it could make sense to spin of each season with their own page to keep the main article slim. Mathmo Talk 05:07, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Season 2 has been moved to a separate page, The Pick-up Artist 2, so discussion about Season 2 can be resumed there. Plastikspork (talk) 02:34, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I merged it back in with Season One since Season One was never split off into its own page and Season Two is a fairly short article. If there is a third season, we can see about splitting it back again. Plastikspork (talk) 23:33, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection

[edit]

Should we nominate this page for semi-protection? Plastikspork (talk) 01:48, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Has there really been that much vandalism? I haven't noticed so much of it here as I do on some of the other VH1 reality show pages (i.e. Charm School, I Love Money) Cespence17 (talk) 03:24, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the great need for protection of this article Mathmo Talk 06:45, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More sources

[edit]

Hey guys,

We need more sources! Right now there is only one but this show had a lot more exposure. We need to keep it up as much as we can. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Satellitedisco (talkcontribs) 22:30, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

first paragraph

[edit]

calls Mystery a "seduction artist" what is a seduction artist? In this context it could be anything from a guy who wears douchey early 90's fashion in a non-ironic/non retro way, to a classic narcissist, to a simple bullshit artist. Whilst he is a great example of all three, Im not sure its a term that should be used on a wiki page, I mean is it verifiable? I can verify that that nobody I know would touch him with someone elses barge pole, let alone their own, but like the term "seduction artist" its not encyclopaedic, so I wouldnt try to include it. Mabey it could be changed by someone who edits? ~ ~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.239.110.185 (talk) 07:56, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reception - student newspaper review

[edit]

I propose to delete the sentence about the The Emory Wheel review, since the verdict is rather harsh and/or subjective. Moreover, this is a student-run newspaper distributing 5,500 copies only to its university and surrounding neighborhoods (according to self-published figures from 2008, which makes the latter even more obscure and worthy of deletion in the EW article). I am sure, if there is dire need, more reviews can be found from other, more popular/trusted, sources. Not sure why the reputable wiki member Tokyogirl79 added the sentence on June 18, 2012.

Update: After leaving this open to discussion for about a month, I just deleted the student newspaper review. Even the AV Club review is actually questionable, as it seems to be written with artistic (here: sarcastic) value in mind, similar to the game reviews in Zero Punctuation (though less elaborate), and not objective. I urge other users to find honest reviews by at least somewhat reputed media. To be clear: I'd be happy to read objective reviews with a negative verdict. 114.247.94.104 (talk) 01:49, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy specific to the show

[edit]

The second paragraph of the Controversy section appears to be generic controversy about pick-up artists, not specifically the show The Pickup Artist. Suffice to replace with a paragraph about such general criticism and a link to appropriate articles where the broader discussion can be found in depth. - 73.140.122.224 (talk) 17:06, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
