Eight voices?

I'm a French teacher and I don't master the language of English literary criticism enough. But I think the sentence: "The story is told through the voices of eight characters" is inaccurate. It is seen through the eyes of eight characters, and told "in third person", indeed. This is not a matter of voice, but point of view. What we call "focalisation" in French.
