"oldest" versus "longest-running"

The website of the Spizzwinks(?) contains the claim that it is the "oldest" non-senior a cappella singing group. The website of the Society of Orpheus and Bacchus claims to be the "longest-running" non-senior a cappella group, not the "oldest" non-senior a cappella group. The difference appears to refer to a war-time hiatus in which the Spizzwinks(?) of the World War II-era temporarily stepped in for the Whiffenpoofs who were at war. The Spizzwinks(?) resumed their normal performing after the war.Soundsgood2me (talk) 22:38, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

It's not about "oldest" versus "longest-running"

If pressed, a Spizzwink alum will tell you that the group disbanded around 1919, and did not reform until sometime in the 40's. The years are not known because the truth about the lengthy hiatus would seriously undermine their claim. Both the Society of Orpheus and Bacchus and the Spizzwinks(?) members stepped in to sing with the Whiffenpoofs and preserve the institution in the War years. The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus was formed in 1938, at which time the Spizzwinks(?) had not yet reformed. The Spizzwinks(?) did not exist for over 20 years. When the group finally reformed, a son of one of the original members re-founded the group, a mainstay of their claim to continuity.

In the barroom of Mory's, you will find a plaque with the name of the Spizzwink's founder, noting the year 1943. The Spizzwinks(?) are really like the Olympics, having both an ancient and a modern incarnation. Reggersusa (talk) 23:45, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

The Spizzwinks(?)The Spizzwinks – This name seems to be a relic of the time before MOS:TM was widely enforced. --BDD (talk) 21:20, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Support. Current title seems clear cut violation of MOS:TM. Zarcadia (talk) 18:42, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
