Legend is not from the Talmud, but midrashic[edit]
The legend of the test of the baby Moses isn't Talmudic, it's Midrashic. It's found in Exodus Rabbah, the Chronicle of Moses, Midrash Vayosha, and Sefer haYashar (midrash) but no Talmudic tractates. I included the original sources below — perhaps someone with more experience editing pages could include them in the article proper?

| If it seems good to the king, let the king send and bring before him an onyx stone and fiery coals, and have them placed before the child. | אם על המלך טוב ישלח המלך ויביאו לפניו אבן שוהם וגחלי אש וישימו אותם לפני הילד.

| And be it that if the child reaches his hand and takes the onyx, | והיה אם ישלח הילד את ידו ולקח את השוהם,

| we will know that the lad acted as he did consciously, and have him killed. | וידענו כי מחכמה עשה הנער את כל אשר עשה ונהרגהו.

| But if upon the coal he reaches his hand, | ואם על הגחלת ישלח את ידו,
|
| we will know that not out of ill intend did he do this matter, and let him live. | וידענו כי לא בדעת עשה הדבר הזה ויחי.

| And the matter seemed good in the eyes of the king and the nobles, and the king did according to the words of the angel of the LORD. | וייטב הדבר בעיני המלך והשרים, ויעש המלך כדבר מלאך ה׳. ,

| And the king commanded, and they brought before him the onyx stone and the coal and placed them in front of Moses. | ויצו המלך, ויביאו לפניו אבן השוהם ואת הגחלת וישימו אותם לפני משה.

| And they set the lad before them and the child wanted to reach his hand to the onyx, | ויושיבו את הנער לפניהם ויבקש הילד לשלוח ידו אל השוהם,

| but the angel of the LORD took his hand and placed it on the coal, and the coal extinguished in his hand. | ויקח מלאך ה׳ את ידו ויתן אותה על הגחלת ותכבה הגחלת בידו.
