Spelling Errorsdogihsdhg I think the last word of the article should be "project" not "proyect".

Cultural References[edit]

In the computer game "Civilization III" the opening cinematic depicts advancements in human civilization using an interpretation of this painting. It begins as the camera pans across the water to the ships whose style seems to represent nomadic people, and ascends upwards with the architectural style changing the further up into what looks like our modern era. --IronMaidenRocks 21:04, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image?[edit]

I can't understand why [[Image:Brueghel-tower-of-babel.jpg]] won't work with different pixel sizes. I'm frustrated with it as all getout. I've messed around with the template, even tried thumbing it in, but no luck. What is wrong? Anyone? Bueller? --mordicai. 16:30, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I brute-forced the image in. It seeems to not want to display at 300px? I can't figure out how to make the template work with it, so it is OUTSIDE of the template. "Engineering difficulties"[edit]

Interestingly, Brueghel's painting seems to attribute the ultimate failure of the Tower to engineering difficulties rather than to sudden, divinely-caused linguistic differences.

The Tower of Babel, held at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, is a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder that was completed circa 1563. It depicts the construction of the Tower of Babel, which according to the Book of Genesis in the Bible, was a tower built by a unified, monolingual humanity as a mark of their achievement and to prevent them from scattering. Bruegel completed a second painting of the same subject, known as the The "Little" Tower of Babel, at roughly the same time; it is held in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.Painting: Pieter Bruegel the Elder

FYI for those who might not be aware - the German Wikipedia has had, for a few years now, separate articles for "the series" of three paintings, and also for each of the two still-existing paintings in this series. English has only ever had the article about the whole series. I think some of the confusion about the new article on en.wp comes from the almost-exactly-the-same page titles, and I think the individual-painting title therefore needs to be moved to a more obvious disambiguation. Nevertheless, each of these two (the Small a.k.a. Rotterdam-version, and the Big a.k.a. Vienna-version) is notable in its own right and so there's no inherent reason why they couldn't exist standalone as well as the "main" article on the series.
