This article has no working citations, and a lot of the content is totally uncited. I think it should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.147.66.59 (talk) 04:10, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

The article needs to be rewritten to read less like a sales pitch and more encylopedic. It also should clearly establish that it meets the WP:Music listing requirements. Vegaswikian 22:32, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've completed a copyedit and removed POV as I saw it. Having no familiarity with the band, hopefully I've addressed the POV concerns in a neutral fashion. I have removed the NPOV tag accordingly. Accurizer 03:11, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there.

Im not in the band, but I am a fan, and a 'friend', and have followed them since the beginning. I understand your concern, and I am fully aware of the Wiki philosophy that only subjects of a legitimate concern be represented here, in an encyclopedic and factual way. These are the facts, as I have them, from many years of articles, interviews and conversations with the band. I have yet to include citations, but I intend to do this.

This is just my little pet project. I have been using other bands wiki's as a guideline for what I should do, (IE: The Rolling Stones), and I have considered your statement that it should read "less like a sales pitch". I would now ask you to wiki any well known or semi-well known band at random. You will note that you find pretty much the same tone of writing, with statements that are clearly subjective in nature. True, there is much more historical information available on these groups, but bands of the same calibre as "The Weekend" have wiki's (though often not as extensive as what I am trying to accomplish) and they exist as part of the database without dispute.

Anyhow, let's see if they fulfill the criterion of deserving thier own wiki:

The requirements:

A musician or ensemble (note that this includes a band, singer, rapper, orchestra, hip hop crew, dj etc) is notable if it meets any one of the following criteria:

  1. Has had a Top 100 hit on any national music chart, in a large or medium-sized country*

-The single "Into the Morning" reached #8 on the Australian 'Channel V' charts.

  2. Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in a large or medium-sized country*

-They have toured Japan, Australia, and is noted in the wiki, are the first western band in HISTORY to do a full tour of Indonesia (including Sumatra and Sulawesi).

  3. Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable)

-The band has released 3 albums. Two were released on Canadian Indie label "Teenage USA", the original home of Merill Nisker AKA: "Peaches". Their songs have appeared in countless compilations, including soundtracks (Disney Records, Universal Records, Lakeshore Records, respectively).

  4. Has been prominently featured in any major music media:

-Does MTV count? The Canadian variant Muchmusic? MTV Asia? MTV Australia? Here they are on MTV's website...

|The Weekend page at MTV

Watch the video for "Into the Morning" which was included on the DVD release of the feature film "DEBS", or go rent "Uptown Girls" or "Freaky Friday" to hear more weekend music from the big screen.

  5. Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise extremely notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such:

-I know that the lead singer has written and recorded with two industry "legends", but I will hesitate to reveal this information until I can confirm it.

  6. Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or the local scene of a city (or both, as in British hip hop); note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability:

-Not sure about this one. Could be argued that in a local sense, at the time of thier incarnation, they represented the only new-wave band. But I can not verify this...yet.

  7. Has won a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno or Mercury Music Award:

-Not yet, anyway.

I am sure that you can see that the criterion are met. Note that only ONE of the above are required to qualify a music group for inclusion in Wikipedia.

Though you may have never heard of the group, millions of other folks have been exposed to thier music in the media through films, television, the radio or print. One of the chief reasons I am assembling this information is due to the fact that so little biographical information exists elsewhere, and there is a real, tangible hunger for it, as the group is currently experiencing an influx of new interest.

Where this will lead is unclear. Perhaps more exposure, or perhaps they will simply remain a footnote.

Either way, they meet the criteria, and thus this wiki is legitimate.

Thank you for your concern,

Bill Phelps.

Why was this section removed, while the heading is still there? Perhaps the previous version should be brought back. Also, I'd like to say that I think this article is neutral. Millsy62 07:56, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This section was blanked by anonymous user 125.100.117.13 without providing any rationale. I have reverted it. Accurizer 02:50, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
