Broadcasters

[edit]

Why are the international broadcasters included in the infobox? This is not the case in the British series articles.. (see The X Factor (UK series 7)) Sjc07 (talk) 12:14, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They should be included like they are in the american idol article because american idol is broadcast on itv2 in the uk Fatty2k10 (talk) 13:10, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, in the American Idol articles (e.g. American Idol (season 1)) it only has Fox Broadcasting Company in the infobox - within the article it's - of course - fine to have the international broadcasters included. - Sjc07 (talk) 16:57, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. We only need to put the original broadcaster, which is Fox. –anemoneprojectors10:30, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have just added a reference to the Canada broadcasters (CTV and CTV2) in the article header and the "Judges Houses". I did this because with the delays caused by MLB, the Canadian audiences are now seeing some episodes before they are available to the American audience. - Ausage (talk) 22:31, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Audition booths

[edit]

I removed the information about the booths a while ago because it was a copyright violation. Can someone explain what they are please? –anemoneprojectors00:19, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bootcamp

[edit]

Does anyone know if Simon's friend singer Sinitta was actually one of the crew that helped during the bootcamp stage?--Cooly123 02:11, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Did bootcamp air this week? (i.e. tonight in the UK?) maybe someone has seen it. –anemoneprojectors15:46, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

NJ/NY Auditions

[edit]

Does anyone who attended the original June 9th, 2011 taping in the afternoon know if the 17year old girl who sung "Born this Way (Lady Gaga) actually made it past bootcamp. There were more than a few blond girls during the bootcamp phase and she doesn't appear on the website.--Cooly123 19:39, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

It's called Simsub not Simulcasting.

[edit]

The CRTC first commissioned simsubbing in 1972, and it is sometimes erroneously called simulcasting, the name of a practice different from simultaneous substitution in that there is no signal replacement.[3][4] According to the CRTC, the practice of simultaneous substitution is necessary "to protect the rights of broadcasters, to enable TV stations to draw enough advertising dollars and to keep advertising dollars in the Canadian market".[1] Canadian broadcast television networks, who must request each and every substitution on an individual basis, have been criticized for exploiting the regulation and not investing enough money into Canadian content — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.110.227.247 (talk) 01:27, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Top 16

[edit]

Please do not add the top 16 contestants, as we do not have a clear picture who has been cut or who will be making it to the live shows. And who's ever monitoring this isn't doing a really good job. Zeta Nova 23:14, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone explain in the article (with a source) why Cowell has five acts instead of four? Thanks. –anemoneprojectors13:28, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently he made a mistake with one of the eliminated contestants (Melanie) and he asked her to take part in the live shows.Source. --MSalmon (talk) 13:35, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Could you (or someone) add this to the article? :-) –anemoneprojectors13:58, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok --MSalmon (talk) 14:02, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :-) I'd have done it but I ran out of time. –anemoneprojectors13:12, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Live Shows

[edit]

How are the live shows going to work since the schedule has now changed? --MSalmon (talk) 21:05, 18 October 2011 (UTC) There will be a non-voting performance show, followed by a voting show, followed by a results show on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday respectively. Jandal3c (talk) 04:31, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Table

[edit]

I'm trying to start a table for the Top 17, but I'm not sure when the judges stop voting to eliminate/put through, and when the elimination is entirely up to the audience vote. Anybody know when? Jandal3c (talk) 04:05, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know, I wouldn't add anything in until it has been confirmed as it may change at the last minute --MSalmon (talk) 09:14, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
On the original UK show it usually goes to public vote only at the Top 5, although last year it wasn't public vote only until the Top 4, but that was the only exception. So I'm expecting it'll either Top 5 or Top 4. 1Dbad (talk) 02:50, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Drew Ryniewicz or just Drew?

[edit]

Drew Ryniewicz is being mentored by Simon Cowell, who clearly said in live show 1 on 25 October 2011 that she will be known by a single name Drew, probably as practically nobody knows how her family name is pronounced... Shall we amend our records to say Drew and in case of a page for her Drew (singer)? werldwayd (talk) 02:53, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Drew and Astro.

[edit]

The common practice has always been to refer to an act as they are advertised and marketed on the show. See American Idol, where Chikezie (Eze) and Mandisa (Hundley) dropped their surname for the voting rounds. (Not sure if Trenyce originally went by LaShundra 'Trenyce' Cobbins or not, but she chose that single name by the time voting began as well.) Also, Megan Corkrey first used her middle name, Joy, as Megan Joy Corkrey. Then she completely dropped her surname (because she was separated/divorced) and now goes simply by Megan Joy. The AI8 Wikipedia page doesn't list her as Corkrey, but rather as Megan Joy. Those examples and I'm sure many others are a precedent for the following:

As the person above mentioned, Simon explicitly stated Drew is just "Drew" now. She is choosing to be mononymous, presumably because her last name is difficult for some to pronounce. Ergo, she should only be listed on the charts and tables simply as Drew. Her full name can still easily be found on the list of finalists page.

And Astro is using a pseudonym, as many rappers (and aspiring ones) do. Once again, this is what they are calling him. And it is only appropriate that we do the same. His birth name will be listed on the finalists page.--Cinemaniac86Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire 12:30, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Results Summary

[edit]

Should we keep Eliminated (week x) on one line or two lines (the same as the UK version format)? --MSalmon (talk) 19:41, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The UK ones are on two lines because at the end of the series, they will anyway because we'll fill in the voting percentages when they are released. See series 7 for an example. I don't know if this will happen in the US, but if not, it can stay on a single line. I've never liked how American Idol did these things, the tables have always looked a mess to me. What from there do you think could be used here? –anemoneprojectors14:17, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion is we should only use one line. If the voting percentages come up after, then we'll fix it. --Maxime9232 (talk) 20:41, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since we're on the subject, I'd like to discuss the odd shift in how the results are displayed around Week 5. On Weeks 1-4, it only indicates if an act was in the bottom two. With Week 5, there was a bottom three, and now the bottom acts are ranked based on positioning. One apparent reason for the change was that Week 5 saw a deadlocked judging panel, with the tiebreaker being public votes. Thus, we knew exactly how the bottom three were ranked, since the lowest act (Lakoda Rayne) was removed immediately, then LeRoy Bell was eliminated after the judges deadlocked, as he had fewer votes than Marcus Canty. On Week 6, Astro is shown in 7th place since he had the fewest votes, but then Drew and Marcus Canty are shown as "bottom three" again.

I really have no preference for how these are laid out, but we need some consistency. In the American Idol tables, the singers are placed based on when they were eliminated based on the overall competition, not the voting on that given night (although, when you think about it, it does match up still). My preference is leaving acts labeled as "bottom X", even on nights when the voting results are made clear (Weeks 5 and 6). If they decide to release the vote totals later, as was suggested above, then we can change it to something else.

--McDoobAU93 17:33, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If the judges vote goes goes to deadlock then we can add the ranking as we know the outcome of the public vote for that week (not overall), otherwise leave it as bottom two/three --MSalmon (talk) 17:43, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see the rationale, but to me it just sticks out too much. I'm also afraid it might encourage editors to fill in the remaining ones to match, even with no evidence to support said placement (except for the aforementioned weeks). The vote tabulation table at the bottom explains the votes, then the week summaries indicate the "why" (and thus would explain why LeRoy Bell left after a 2-2 vote on the panel). --McDoobAU93 18:59, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is just how it is done (see The X Factor (UK series 8) results table, which follows the same format. --MSalmon (talk) 19:00, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The ONLY time that ranking should be used is if;
  • a) the act was eliminated imediately with no final showdown (bottom three)
  • b) the judges vote goes to deadlock and then we know the outcome of the public vote.
Otherwise leave as Bottom two/three. --MSalmon (talk) 10:28, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I got a look at that format, and based on how rarely it appears to occur, I think that's actually not too bad. As you point out, it is consistent with other X Factor articles. Again, if the full voting results are ever released, they can be added at that time. Thanks for the input! --McDoobAU93 15:18, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also have a look at The X Factor (UK series 7) for an example of a completed season. In the UK, the full voting results are released at the end, though this may not happen in the USA. –anemoneprojectors15:23, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Individual picture for L.A. Reid (without Mariah Carey)

[edit]

It is very inaccurate and misleading to include a picture of Mariah Carey alongside L.A. Reid in the judges section. Mariah Carey has nothing to do with The X Factor judging, so her appearing in this section is not acceptable. Don't we have another picture of L.A. Reid in which he appears all alone? This photo should go, as it doesn't belong here werldwayd (talk) 04:05, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Only 1 round on Finale

[edit]

In the results tab, the finale is seperated in 2 rounds. This is the case of the UK version since one contestant is eliminated on the first night and there are two voting rounds. In the US version, there is only one "round" because the public vote only once, and the 3rd-place finisher is eliminated on the second night, just as the others. --Maxime9232 (talk) 18:39, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cast changes

[edit]

Since this article is merely about the first season of the show and not the show itself, I don't believe any discussion of the January 2012 casting changes (the removal of Steve Jones, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul) are that appropriate because the season ended before these changes took place. It is appropriate to mention, however, that Scherzinger took the place of Cheryl Cole, who started out as a judge but left the panel during the audition phase, since that occurred during the season. What do others think about this? Should we leave the article's contents to what has taken place within the season, or include some discussion about what's happened afterwards? --McDoobAU93 18:28, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
