[Untitled][edit]

I have completely rewritten this article and added more contentYini3 09:10, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Small additions[edit]

Corrected a couple of typos, re-arranged a few sentences and added some more information regarding the management course and council tax. May require a few citations... Spanner UK 15:24, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Scheme[edit]

The recruiting / selection process described is nothing like the one I went through? I've certainly never filled in an on line form. I suggest some heavy editing..? Spanner UK 14:39, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • i did pretty much that. The bulk of what is said there is sourced from the Yini webpage--Yini3 13:58, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Seconded, also, WP:NOT#OR, and remember to sign your edits with four tildes (~~~~)  ⌥Changling Bobusrtlk 14:04, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree it needs editing its not well written, but it has to be kept in-line with the reference--Yini3 14:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hmm my personal experience was as follows;
    1) Go to YinI event at Bham uni (not the exhibition).
    2) Sign up then and there (for free!)
    3) Be offered interviews as they come
    4) Accept job offer

I'll ask around; this might turn out to be quite region specific, regardless of what the website officially says. -- Spanner UK 14:56, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • For free? I find that very odd...  ⌥Changling Bobusrtlk 15:11, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They ask for a £25 admin charge but in my experience never enforce it Miagel 16.44 10 July 2007
The typical £25 fee was ditched specifically for those who attended the event. Incidentally my sister signed up for free at our company exhibition day: It seems if you are face to face, at least with the Midlands section of Yini, then the applicant is not charged a fee.Spanner UK 15:02, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Having a second glance it seems 'The Scheme' repeats a lot of what is already said in 'The Year in Industry' section...I shall let you decide which bits to remove. -- Spanner UK 15:06, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now I think about it, is the specific way that one gets one's placement notable really?  ⌥Changling Bobusrtlk 15:13, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would say no.Spanner UK 15:02, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Council Tax[edit]

Can we get a source for the statement of council tax. I have heard similar rumours but we need it in writing--Yini3 14:05, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm not sure how that could be presented other than citing a source that claims it has happened. So far as I know the YinI don't discuss council tax on their website. -- Spanner UK 14:56, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Court documents are public domain, so if its happened there will be stuff you can cite properly. The trick will be finding it  ⌥Changling Bobusrtlk 15:10, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, true. Though I have a feeling that the discounts given tend to be rather unofficial. Incidentally i've added another 'citation needed' which will require some gvt document detailing the definition of a student and council tax exemption rules. I can find national rules but not a national definition.--Spanner UK 15:24, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If its gone through an appeal process, it'll have to be official.  ⌥CBusrtlk 15:26, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's more that it gets swept under the carpet from the outset rather than going through an appeals process; I believe the people who have had council tax dropped simply applied for student exemption as per usual along with the documents provided by YinI, prior to being charged council tax. Either way, a citation is proving difficult to find...Spanner UK 15:05, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Leadership Course[edit]

Added a paragraph about many companies avoiding YinI students on the basis that they would be employing staff who then wouldn't be there once a month, a fact the YinI don't bother to tell people on the scheme 87.127.209.38

Please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~). Do you have a source for this? Please find a source as at the moment your statement has no grounding.--Yini3 11:05, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've found no evidence of this on my time on the scheme, along with people I've met both on the scheme, and managers of both students currently on the scheme and those thinking of taking on students in the future. Please cite a source for this as per WP:CITE  ⌥CBusrtlk 12:56, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well i have experienced hostility from YINI staff when i complained that the course was patronising and unproffesional and i have spoken with managers of other departments within the company where i was placed who did state this, obviously this is dificult to cite due to no-one writing websites or books on why they didn't take a YINI student. It is however first hand experience, not a friend of a friend Miagel 16.39, 10 July 2007
Wikipedia is not original research  ⌥CBusrtlk 12:32, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You cant cite personal research or opinion though on wikipedia, its an enclyclopedia, please read WP:CITE. Will delete this statement id your cant source it.--Yini3 08:43, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, i have deleted it, however i would suggest changing any reference to "teaching" and "being taught" as without "persional experience" you cannot prove that they teach anything Miagel 12.11, 11 July 2007
You'll note that there is a citation to the fact that students take one of the courses listed. It is a convention of English that those who take courses in a subject are refered to as "being taught", and that "teaching" occurs. I refer you to the wiktionary definition of teach in case you are confused.  ⌥CBusrtlk 12:32, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wiktionary states that to "teach" is to "pass on knowledge", i defy you to glean knowledge from the staff employeed on that course Miagel
Some of us were perfectly capable of learning things. Perhaps it was not at the level you desired, or necessarily on the topics you were expecting, but yes, I did learn things both about leadership and about, what I expect you're complaining about, state of mind. Just because something does not appeal to you does not mean it does not have merit.  ⌥CBusrtlk 10:05, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What region are your from miagel?--Yini3 14:48, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

As much as I agree that te logo should be in a box detailing what it actually is, as it is now (14:51, 2 July 2007 (UTC)), it looks ugly. Could we either revert to the old one, or pad out the new one with some whitespace to make it look less boxed in?  ⌥Changling Bobusrtlk 14:51, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hows the updated pic?--Yini3 15:02, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bingo, much better  ⌥Changling Bobusrtlk 15:03, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:YearInIndustry-logo.jpeg[edit]

Image:YearInIndustry-logo.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
