Not a hoax

[edit]

The name may not be appropriate, but this is a real drug, indeed known as Thebacon (mentioned in the WHO's Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System; the translation "Tebacona" is the official Spanish INN and Brazilian Nonproprietary Name) and Acedicon (some old references available, including this 1936 article which my ridiculous German is only capable of translating as "Two cases of Acedicon poisoning in childhood"). The article should be renamed acetyldihydrocodeinone and references provided. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 02:54, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Correction: moved it to thebacon, which is the INN as confirmed in Martindale: The complete drug reference. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 02:58, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

XKCD cartoon

[edit]

There's a bit of a reversion war going on here. I think that the mention of the XKCD comic playing on the phrase "bringing home thebacon" is valid here, so I have reverted to include it again. Others who disagree with me or agree with me should comment here. Thanks.--Mark Asread (talk) 17:18, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't belong. XKCD has no relevance to the subject of this article. Thebacon is irrelevant to the cartoon. It is useless trivia either way you look at it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:29, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, for the millionth time, per WP:XKCD. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:49, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I guess I was wronger than I've been in a while. I had no idea that XKCD merited an entire page that pretty much said "don't do what you just tried to do, dummy," and I am now hanging my head in shame, tail between legs. Thanks, Jamie and Ed and apologies to the entire hive mind. --Mark Asread (talk) 20:08, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, if the XKCD cartoon is a spur to research, and its determined that the name is the source of numerous jokes since its inception, then we could add a section on the odd name. we just need to keep comment here, not on the article page, until such time as we have enough. I doubt we ever will, but i havent researched it yet. even so, we wouldnt MENTION xkcd, only use the cartoon as an example among many.(mercurywoodrose)75.61.131.36 (talk) 17:12, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Morphine ester?

[edit]

No, compare the positions of the double bond. And the esterification with acetic anhydride in aqueous solution will give a goog yield of acetic acid, but no ester. ;-) --FK1954 (talk) 20:26, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
