Never heard of this band. They are not even close to rhcp. This is bullshit

~ Uh, that would be absolutely incorrect. Thelonious Monster toured with the Chili Peppers (and Fishbone) during the mid to late 80's. The band played frequent club dates together in Hollywood before the Chili Peppers broke big. Even after the Chili Peppers were huge, band members continued to attend Thelonious Monster gigs. I recall one night in particular when Flea filled in on Bass at Rajis (Thelonious Monster went through a lot of band members).

Didn't they go by Thelonious Monster Mellencamp for a little while in the 1980's? It was a poke at John Mellencamp went he went from John Cougar to John Cougar Mellencamp before becoming just John Mellencamp. Mellencamp (John, that is) wasn't too happy with the name, so Thelonious reverted back to their original name.Alfenn (talk) 19:06, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They did. Or at least claimed that they did at one point. It would have been very briefly at the very formation of the group.--- It doesn't stick. (talk) 18:45, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting factoids: Flea was the original bassist for T Monster (the band is covered in an early issue of Spin circa 1986 with Flea fresh off his stint in Fear). Flea also produced and played trumpet on their minor "hit" Walk On Water (1988 iirc). Several of the then members of the band appear in the Chili Peppers' video for Higher Ground.

Other members of the Monster have been Mike Martt (Tex & The Horseheads), KK Barrett (The Screamers), Dix Denny (Weirdos), Zander Schloss (Circle Jerks, Kevin in Repo Man), Rob Graves (ne'e Ritter) (The Bags, 45 Grave), Martyn Lenoble (Porno For Pyros).... crap, I should just flesh-out this whole article. - It doesn't stick.
