@Nizil Shah, Pratyk321, and Kautilya3: I am working my way through some of Jain and related historic sites in Tamil Nadu/Kerala region. The Thiruparankundram-Madurai region has some significant ones, whose history was affected in part by some 14th-century Sultans including Sikandar Shah, the last Sultan of Madurai Sultanate. In fact, his grave is on the top of the same rocky hill where Thiruparankundram Jain caves are. Thiruparankundram-Madurai was the capital of the short lived Madurai Sultanate after raids of Delhi Sultanate, and there are scholarly sources on Sikandar Shah. This article is about his Dargah, but one that entirely ignores scholarship and entirely relies on a website apparently created by a local organization linked with or is managing the Dargah.
We have strange allegations in the current version of this wikipedia article such as a gravity-defying rock, one that floated with the Sultan Sikandar's prayer position.... "A few soldiers reached the cave where they found the rock to fly up while Sultan Sikandhar badhusha stood for prayers and settle down when he was prostrating"
. Then there is implied length of his life. This article and the source website alleges that he came to Tamil Nadu in 12th-century, while peer reviewed scholarship (Branfoot (2003) in Ars Orientalis, Vol 33 e.g.) who has a substantial discussion on the history of this Thiruparankundram site, states that the Sultan died in late 14th-century (c. 1377 CE) along with his generals and courtiers after an ongoing war with Vijayanagara forces. So the dates do not make any sense. Strange mystical, myth-filled article is this. It needs a major cleanup and rewrite based on scholarly sources.
Nizil/Pratyk321: I see you have been editing some Tamil Jain-related articles for a while, have you run into any published reliable sources that support any significant part of this Thiruparankundram-related article. Kautliya3: same question, given your contributions to topics/sites/history related to Hindu-Muslim conflicts in South Asia. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 16:33, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Ms Sarah Welch (talk), Thanks a lot for reaching out, I haven't seen any of RS for Thiruparankundram Dargah, but I'll explore the same at the earliest. Thanks and regards Pratyk321 (talk)
- Hello, I am not aware of the subject but by looking at the article, I can tell that it needs complete rewrite. It is not encyclopedic at all. Infobox needs a change as well. Nizil (talk) 16:04, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
