The linked site for the first footnote has nothing to do with the LDS Church or Hales' alleged stance on homosexuality. Am I missing something here? Michael Kinyon (talk) 03:01, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not very adept at formatting comments, so if anyone would like to edit this comment to better reflect the desired look of the Talk page, please feel free.

I'm the person who linked the site which, at the time, was an open letter to Dr. Hales friends, family, and colleagues explaining his stance on the Church of LDS, the difficulties he's experienced being a homosexual in current American culture, and his great support for the California Proposition 8. All of that appears to have since been removed.

I was a research assistant to Dr. Hales at the time, and I cited the above information because I thought it was important to mention the (in my opinion) admirable causes he championed, especially because it put the spotlight on a mathematician who happened to be gay--and I think that highlighting the achievments of (uncloseted) gays is a mighty progressive step toward acceptance and tolerance. I wanted to tell the whole story, in other words.

However, since the letter has been removed from the website and I know of no other source, I understand the decision to remove unsourced information. Karasuman (talk) 03:12, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

-I believe you mean to say his great "opposition" to Prop 8. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.183.186.16 (talk) 20:30, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Other work than the Kelper conjucture

[edit]

In the lede and on his Pittsburgh Uni page his other work is mentioned. If someone is familiar with his other work expanding on it in the body of the article would be an improvement. Jonpatterns (talk) 20:04, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
