Clarifying racial intent of founding Clemson Univeristy

[edit]

I have edited this section to reflect that Clemson founded the university in response to the desegregation of the University of South Carolina - the earlier version implicitly suggested that Clemson University was not founded with the express intent of excluding black students — Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.101.180.123 (talk) 18:46, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Post-1850 Ownership of Fort Hill

[edit]

I have raised a question regarding possibly conflicting statements in this article, the Fort Hill (Clemson) article, and the Floride Calhoun article regarding the ownership of Fort Hill following John C. Calhoun's death in 1850. See Talk:Fort Hill (Clemson) for details. --TommyBoy (talk) 09:10, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited the page by providing some information on how Fort Hill passed from John C. Calhoun to Thomas Green Clemson. This version is from E. M. Lander's 1983 history of the Calhoun Family and Clemson. Alternative versions of this transfer exist. Many simplify the history by implying that it went from Calhoun to Clemson. See the South Carolina Encyclopedia for an example. KudzuVine (talk) 18:26, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American slave owners

[edit]

No mention of slave-owning. I feel that this category should be restricted to people whose slave-owning history was notable in itself. Valetude (talk) 12:55, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
