Closure of the Thompson's Point School

[edit]

Although we have a source saying it closed 1929, there is a 1922 newspaper advertisement looking for someone to "purchase and remove the old school building". In my experience, removal of a school building signals either that the school has closed OR that a bigger and better school was to be built on the cleared site. If the school was struggling with having sufficient students, it seems more likely this is a signal that it closed rather than being enlarged, but 1922 is well before 1929. So I am not quite sure what to make of this. Kerry (talk) 07:39, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Qld State Archives have two different dates for its closure in the same record, one being "26/02/1920 (exact)" and under the Description tab "closed on 26 February 1929". Given the day and month are the same, I am guessing there is a 1920/1929 typo. I have emailed the archives to see what they say, but the 1922 call for tenders would suggest 1920 closure is the more likely one. Kerry (talk) 08:23, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
