Possible promotional language/inappropriate tone

[edit]

Parts of this article do not feature the correct Wikipedia tone. These may need correcting/changing.

Examples of incorrect tone include:

  • Listing target audience of attraction in opening paragraph about article
  • language such as
    • "comprehensive [...] museum"
    • "extensive quarry site [with] ample space for the display"
    • "mineral panning is optionally available"
    • "guided tour [...] is one of the highlights of the museum"
    • "continues to expand through the dedication of staff"
  • The description of "unique collection" is repeated in the article. And similar phrasing is also used elsewhere

Perhaps the most obvious brochure style advertisement in this article is: "dependant on weather and staff availability. To be confirmed by phone" - surely this is far from the correct style of article, and feels more suited to their own website/advertisement.

The article also features unreferenced content. Examples follow

  • Second paragraph of Quarry section, which I suspect is a later edition, as it follows the advertising style of other parts of the article
  • Parts of the Railway section do not have enough references
  • The Underground Mine section is entirely unreferenced, and has a similar incorrect tone.
  • The Mining Room section could perhaps link to another Wikipedia page explaining ores and mining in the lake district, as opposed to listing items in a display.
  • The Quarry Room section is unreferenced
  • The Open Air Exhibition section could perhaps be better titled - Gallery

Due to the style of this article, I suspect sections include a non neutral standpoint, primary research, and possible advertising (although this may, of course, be entirely unintentional). I am looking to re write aspects of the article in a better tone, while ensuring all information is correctly sourced and referenced. Mxtt.prior (talk) 08:05, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Following further research, I've discovered large parts of this article are indeed copy-pasted directly from the website of the museum https://www.threlkeldquarryandminingmuseum.co.uk/about-us-1/. This helps explain my above comment, and why the article contains an inappropriate tone. Using Earwig's Copyvio Detector https://copyvios.toolforge.org/ returns a 59% confidence of possible copyright violation, due to the large volume of copy-pasted text. As before, I will look to re write certain aspects of the article to fix the problems, and any comments are welcome. Mxtt.prior (talk) 08:19, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Copyvio/text paste issues seem to be cleaned up now. Dl2000 (talk) 21:41, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
