Why is it novelty surely it is quite useful.
I think it may be viewed as a novelty by some because it's relatively inaccurate, and even when in sinc it gives only the times of high and low tide. It won't reveal the elevations at high or low tide. Anyone requiring tide info to make their plans will always end up consulting a tidetable, even if they own a tideclock. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.89.73.163 (talk) 16:51, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Tide clocks gain approximately 15 minutes per month[edit]
I removed the sentence in the opening paragraph which concluded that tide clocks gain approximately 15 minutes per month and must be reset periodically.
If a tide clock doesn't take account of seconds and its dial simply rotates once every 12 hours 25 minutes then there would indeed be a monthly gain of about 15 minutes. However, the lunar cycle is actually closer to 12 hours 25 minutes and 14 seconds, and any clock which takes that properly into will consequently be more accurate. - 83.217.169.188 (talk) 10:21, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
