Names[edit]

Perhaps this BusinessWeek article should be referenced instead of the National Post article, since the BW article pre-dates the other by a week. ...and there's this BW Podcast interview with him.

Jeff Mcpherson is named as the creator of Tikibartv in this National Post article. It also names Johnny Johnny and a couple other minor characters. Lala's identity is being carefully guarded I've heard.

"...actor/producer Reginald Horstein's name is revealed, and in episode 10A, actress Beatrice Fastwater's name is revealed." Those sound like made-up names; I'm quite sure the actors/producers names have not (and will not) be revealed in any episode nor official websites/blogs. --Froese 11:31, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The names provided sound like real, Canadian-ish names to me. Good reasons to suspect this was produced in Canada:

1) Johnny-Johnny's reciept showing GST [[1]] (Posted to :[[2]], which also had the name Reginald Hornstein)

2) The WHOIS for internationalballs.com in Vancouver

As for the names being real...

This article [[3]] also shows the same name. I don't think either Hornstein or Fastwater are made up.

First of all, it has been well established that Tiki Bar TV comes from BC, Canada; no one is disputing that. Secondly, you do understand InternationalBalls is not an authorative source? It is likely just another creative outlet for "Reginald" and friends.

The reasons I believe Reginald Hornstein and Beatrice Fastwater are stage names is the following:

A google search comes up with nothing more than a couple of recent articles about Tiki Bar TV. Creative people like these three would certainly have mentions of their names somewhere previous to this project.
Reginald and Beatrice may be common names in Canada, but I doubt there are many in their 20's or 30's
Everything else on their site and in Dr. Tiki's interview is purposefully vague about their location, professions, motivation, and real names; it adds to the mystery--and therefore the appeal.

I find the notion that they're using made-up names as their "real" names more speculative, but it's certainly a valid theory. I don't see any "mystery" aspect to it. If they wanted it to be a mystery it would be blank, not phony. And I do agree the web site could be just as fake as anything else.

Episodes[edit]

Using Wikipedias *# formatting is not going to work anymore for numbering episodes since we now have a "10A." Also this is poor way of displaying what should be at least 3 columns (episode number, short title, descriptive title.) Anyone out there ready to take up re-formatting this using {| {{prettytable-center2}}? Also, how about adding a fourth column and writing a one sentence synopsis as well? Added Episode 11 and release dates for all episodes. I think we should add run time for each as well. I've set iTunes to delete episodes after its been watch, so I don't have this info. That's great! I didn't realize they were getting progressively longer; maybe be next year they will release a feature-length movie! ;-)

Lulu/Loulou[edit]

"Lulu, in french is written Loulou. We can suppose that's the way she writes it since she's french."

The Canadian Barrister and the Dancing Greek Guy look like the same actor, the latter having appeared after the growth of a beard.

Catch Phrases[edit]

How about a section on catch phrases from the series? My favorite is "He did a Lala!" as coined by Lala in Episode 8 (at 3:15) when The Duke of Url spilled his drink on himself as Lala had done in Episode 4 (at 2:20).

A single defining quote from each of the main characters might be useful to exemplify their personality. If we start adding all memorable quotes, it may get out of hand. My personal faves are:

"Dr Diki!" -Lala
"If you turn your back on science, it will take you from behind" - Dr. Tiki.

Should the recipes section be split into a seperate article?[edit]

BWF89: I think we should split the recipes section of this article into an article of it's own. We shouldn't have to have a huge list of ingredients for drinks right on the main page when it's just going to keep getting longer and longer. 19:30 EST, 22 Feburary 2006

I don't like what Zanimum did on 20 March 2006. Namely, in 'episodes', he replaced the official show descriptions with drink descriptions and deleted all the recipes. I think the recipes are an intergal part of Tiki Bar TV and, if anything, should be expanded upon by adding a paraphrase of Johnny's instructions to each (and be put on a seperate page call "Tiki Bar TV recipes".) To clarify, Zanimum removed the recipies, and Dr Tiki's show description for episode one. To prevent an edit war, I followed his lead and cleaned up the page a bit. With the description gone, the drink name had to go someplace. Since most of the time the episode title is the drink name, this can be redundant. I like having the recipies here, but I couldn't find Wikipedia's current policy on recipies. Usually they get bumped to Wikibooks. Including Johnny's instructions might be tough. To quote the US copyright office:

"Mere listings of ingredients as in recipes, formulas, compounds or prescriptions are not subject to copyright protection. However, where a recipe or formula is accompanied by substantial literary expression in the form of an explanation or directions, or when there is a combination of recipes, as in a cookbook, there may be a basis for copyright protection."

And there's a problem with Tiki Bar TV recipes[edit]

I'm doing a major cleanup on the cocktails articles, the plan is to remove all the recipe content to wikibooks. I'm not sure what to do with Tiki Bar TV recipes. I question whether it is allowable to move the content to wikibooks for the copyright reasons listed above. The lists of ingredients can't stay on wikipedia, and if they can't go on wikibooks, then there is no place for them at all and they should be deleted.

On the other hand... if you all want to keep them, you could have someone go to wikibooks and make each one of the cocktail recipe articles individually. One way or another, though, the content needs to be removed from wikipedia, as it's not encylopedic. --Xyzzyplugh 06:59, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tiki video game[edit]

Alex Albrecht of Diggnation fame had this to say on his Twitter recently: "@drtiki um what's this I hear about a tiki bar tv video game?!?! Amazi ng if it's true!" Show dead?[edit]

After 46 episodes (via iTunes podcast XML feed), and 46 was way back in 12/25/09, I haven't seen anymore episodes anywhere, and it appears, while sites and such are still up and running, there's nothing Tiki Bar TV in development, unless I'm missing something altogether.
