Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose that Tilia heterophylla be moved into Tilia americana. Both GRIN ([1], [2]) and the USDA ([3], [4]) consider Tilia heterophylla and T. caroliniana to be varieties of T. americana, and only Tilia heterophylla has an article at the moment. Anyway, I wanted to see if there's anyone who would object to this. — Eru·tuon 23:43, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"One problem with the Basswood is what to call it. It has multiple common names and multiple scientific names. Experts can’t agree if there is one species with variations or several species" – Basswood Tree, Linden, Lime Tree wbm1058 (talk) 00:39, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There really isn't a problem though, the accepted scientific name is T. americana, as noted by Erutuon with both GRIN and the USDA databases using that binomial. There are older and varietal names, yes, but they should be redirected here.--Kevmin § 00:52, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Makes more sense to create a Tilia caroliniana article. They are all considered species. Dger (talk) 23:00, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
