Rationale for deletion?

• 1888 - Photo-Club de Paris founded.
• 1991 - EuroDisney in business near city.
• 1993 - Parc de la Villette constructed.

My apologies, I was rearranging and adding a lot of text and didn't give the reasons for these deletions.

1. Photo-Club of Paris. There's no link, and I can't find any information about what it did and why it's important. I'll keep looking. 2. EuroDisney is not in Paris, and not within the scope of this article. If we include everything in the Paris region, we need to include events at Versailles and many other places. 3. Parc de la VIlette was actually built between 1987-1991, and is part of the City of Science and Industry, which opened in 1986, and which I listed in the timeline.

Thank you for the explanation. How would you describe "the scope of this article"? It may be useful to add a guiding intro paragraph useful to both readers and editors. In my opinion, for instance, major events near Paris (like opening of EuroDisney) affect people in Paris, and are therefore worthy of inclusion in the city timeline. Good question. I think the main goal here is to try to make the article useful, interesting and not too long or filled with trivia. I think it should include no more than the two or three most important events (political, social, cultural, or economic) events in any given year. These could be the opening of an important new museum or landmark, the Olympic games, a landmark cultural event (Premiere of Rites of Spring, and Gershwin writing an 'American in Paris' ) a major civil disturbance or natural disaster. Again, the key is limiting the number of events to two or three maximum per year, otherwise it will get filled with trivia and promotions and will be hard to read. The best timeline example I've seen so far is the Rome history timeline, which covers a comparable number of centuries and which is concise, informative, and well-illustrated. Having good images with clear, dated captions is also essential, for people who are looking for the dates of important landmarks and events.

Also, I don't think the population figures should be sprinkled throughout the timeline; I think we should have an info box where you can see the population growth (with citations) in one place, without having to search the article for it.

Population Statistics

The population statistics in the timeline are questionable, and often very different from the population statistics which are found in the article Demographics of Paris and also in Histoire de Paris by Yves Combeau (1999). I propose we replace them with the official figures, and put them in a separate section or a couple of sections, by century. Any thoughts about this? SiefkinDR (talk) 13:51, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Yes, good idea to include official population statistics. I think population info should be integrated into each relevant year in the timeline, rather than ghettoed aside. M2545 (talk) 14:49, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Photo-club de Paris

Photo-club de Paris founded in 1888 should absolutely be kept. It is one of the most important events in the history of "art", if photography is considered to be an art - which it is. Think of Niépce & Daguerre.

Thanks for Recent Corrections

Dear Blue Indigo, thanks for your recent corrections and improvements. I made just one change; the number of Communards buried in the cemeteries includes both those killed in the fighting and those executed afterwards. Page layout

The current layout of this article looks great and is quite functional. For comparison's sake, however, the design of Timeline of the San Francisco Bay Area differs slightly. It especially streamlines the layout of years with multiple events (centered headings, fewer bullet points, even more images, etc.). Thoughts? Any interest in considering a slight restyling of the Paris timeline layout? (Following the San Francisco model, the layout of the Timeline of Boston was recently revised.
