Pictures?

[edit]

I believe this article would be improved by adding two figures, one which is a picture of Dr. Pankey and one which is the original supernova light curve figure from his thesis. I do not believe they are in the public domain but I suspect they easily fall under fair use, though I will defer to more experienced Wikipedia editors to add them appropriately. @CamrynBell did good work creating this article, and could hopefully weigh in.

Image 1: The 1958 group picture depicting Dr. Pankey in 'The Bison' (the Howard University yearbook, pg 51 of the PDF https://dh.howard.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1126&context=bison_yearbooks ) appears to be the highest resolution verifiable image of his face currently online. This could be cropped to obtain his face for the purposes of a biographical article.

Image 2: Figure III (or Fig II) in his dissertation (presently published and owned by Proquest, pg 18 of the PDF https://www.proquest.com/docview/302073367?pq-origsite=gscholar&fromopenview=true ) includes the famous type 1a supernova lightcurve, with the radioactive decay curves plotted over the observational data. This figure is historically significant as being the first 'modern' type 1a light curve and would be valuable in the 'Career' section, especially given the importance of this curve to type 1a supernova to cosmology today. It might be illustrative to include this figure along side the schematic type 1a light curve from the type 1a article. 138.87.169.200 (talk) 18:47, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
