As a portion of a class assignment I will be making substantial edits to this article. Attempts will be made to keep the changes as accurate as possible. The edits will focus around the development of the archaeological site of Tiya and its under-appreciated importance to the global community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by A mzungu (talkcontribs) 10:47, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New page for archaeological site?[edit]

Would it make sense to create a separate page for the archaeological site at Tiya? Combining demographic information about the small town of Tiya nearby with info about the World Heritage Site seems awkward to me. Ninafundisha (talk) 03:08, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

They're combined probably because Tiya as a whole is a World Heritage Site [1]. It was a common practice in the Horn to build over existing ruins, so even the townspace likely lies over some important archaeological structures. Middayexpress (talk) 20:09, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know if are there any references that support this, that could be included in the article? The UNESCO page only talks about the stelae and associated tombs, and doesn't mention the current town at all.Ninafundisha (talk) 03:56, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No; it's just casual, albeit educated speculation. At any rate, per the above, I've move the megalithic material to Tiya (archaeological site). Middayexpress (talk) 19:12, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help with this. The new Tiya archaeological site page looks great, especially with your additions. Ninafundisha (talk) 01:41, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
