Lewd Photograph[edit]

Why might it not be appropriate to include details of the "lewd act". On one level readers may want to know what Carney hasn't done, and on another, minimising the event is a form of censorship on behalf of Carney

The lead is intended to be a short, neutral summary, with details in the body. Wikipedia is a not a sensationalist tabloid - a short statement that he was sacked due to a photo is suitable for the lead, details of the nature of the photo are best left for the extended discussion in the body of the article. - Bilby (talk) 09:48, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bilby, Appreciate that Wiki is not the News of The World, but 'urinating into his own mouth' is accurate, factual and evidence based. The act itself needs no sensationalization, and there is no adverbs used to sensationalise at all ~~Osito321~~

I think you are missing my point - I have no hassles with that being mentioned in the article, now that it is reliably sourced. My thought was that those details work best in the body, with a brief summary in the lead. At the moment, approximately 1/4 of the lead is given to this single incident, which then accounts for only one sentence in the body. We'e got the balance backwards. - Bilby (talk) 10:00, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The description "urinating into his own mouth" is five words of perhaps 200 in the lead. I appreciate the need to avoid sensationalisation, but also need to ensure appropriate facts are not side stepped as PC ~~Osito321~~

Once again, that was covered in the body, not ignored or sidestepped. At any rate, I need to revert your addition of "Scandals and legal issues" - it duplicates content already covered in the article, and we are encouraged to cover controversies into a more balanced account, as it does now, rather than break them out into their own negative section, per WP:CSECTION. - Bilby (talk) 10:18, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, arguably Carney's career is now punctuated more by the long series of scandals rather than his quality as a league player. Your thoughts??

NO. That would be WP:UNDUE and WP:OR. Wikipedia doesn't lead the news, it follows, especially when it comes to the biographies of living people. Carney is a 166 game football player, a Daly M and RLIF award winner, and a state and national team representative, and that's what the article must be about. It doesn't matter what we think: until the sources say otherwise, then it must stay about his football career, with the other stuff as epiphenomena. --Shirt58 (talk) 11:24, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
