Requested move 5 April 2016
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Not moved. Per consensus, I will instead move Tom Thacker to Tom Thacker (basketball) and make Tom Thacker a dab page. (non-admin closure) Natg 19 (talk) 22:32, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
– pageview comparison shows that the musician gets more than 10 times the number of views compared to the basketballer and is the primary topic. Inwind (talk) 06:43, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- Malplaced template and oppose per WP:RECENT In ictu oculi (talk) 07:30, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- Support, per pageview comparison and WP:TWODAB. Gulangyu (talk) 08:49, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- Partial support. While the musician currently has more page views, I'm worried that he doesn't fit the "long term significance" part of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Also, basically switching the "Tom Thacker" title to be from a basketball player to a musician has a likelihood for confusion, especially from external links we can't fix. With that in mind, I do support Tom Thacker → Tom Thacker (basketball), but the second related move should be Thomas Thacker (a dab) → Tom Thacker (making the "Tom Thacker" title a three link dab). If my proposal passes, I wouldn't mind revisiting this down the road to see if the second step should be made. -- Tavix (talk) 11:54, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- Support. Yikes. Obvious primarytopic by usage - over an order of magnitude more than the current setup - which includes the basename bias. Dohn joe (talk) 13:36, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose primarytopic grab adding ambiguity based on popularity. Use a disambig page instead; move the basketball player as proposed. Dicklyon (talk) 02:32, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose - just move the basketball player Tom Thacker (basketball) and make Tom Thacker a DAB page. That's what was done with Kevin McHale, and both the actor and basketball players were more prominent than these Thackers. Rikster2 (talk) 13:32, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose: Tom Thacker should be the dab page, with (basketball) and (musician) to be the article distinguishers for this "common" name. — Wyliepedia 09:21, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose Treating the musician as the primary topic is recentism. Tom Thacker the basketball player had a significant college career and was part of some important pro teams. A modern basketball player with similar accomplishments would be getting many more page views. But I'd be OK moving the basketball player to Tom Thacker (basketball) and setting up a disambiguation page. Zagalejo^^^ 01:35, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
