I'm not convinced Jansson was killed at a World Championship qualifier. According to this comprehensive guide to the Swedish qualifying stages of the World Championship http://www.speedway.org/history/76.htm#1976 Jansson had already qualified for the Swedish Final with maximum points on May 9 at Lindesberg and then did not take his place at the Swedish Final at Linköping on May 25. If he died at a meeting in Stockholm on May 20, it was clearly not a World Championship qualifier. --Rcclh (talk) 19:23, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tommy, did lose his life, when he tangled with Lars Jansson (no relation) in the original staging of the Swedish Final, of the World Speedway Championship, at Stockholm on the 20th May 1976. The meeting was re-staged with several riders missing on the 25th May. I was a Wimbledon 'Dons' supporter at the time when this atrocious accident happened, to our beloved team Captain.
