POV[edit]

Clarification please:

  • However, many fans and people in the gaming industry regard his remarks as immature, distasteful and hypocritial.
  • Nevertheless, Itagaki's popular and acclaimed work, such as Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox has largely silenced his most hostile critics.

How is the latter POV and the former not? I'll leave that one alone in the article for now and just revert some flat-out nonsense. - DaveR 00:02, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I rephrased things, and removed the former sentence. It seemed redundant, and veering into POV. -DaveR 02:41, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So is it only POV when someone says something negative about a person you like, but not POV when you uncritically praise them or justify their actions? Or is this another part of the "anything to not get sued for libel" policy that made you afraid to call out anyone's bad behavior but are willing to entertain all kinds of rumor once someone is dead?

Ah, that first sentence was me from a long time back. I was meaning to fix that, but I had never got around to doing it, though. Good change, though. MrDeePay

Is there any sources for people hes "immature and superficial" and other negative things in this articles? The only 2 links go to interviews with him. Highlandlord 20:19, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What are these "controversial comments" Itagaki is claimed to have made about Tekken? Is there a source? 69.124.61.158 23:13, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is widely known fact and pertains to many interviews magazines and websites have done with him. Mr.bonus 23:18, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
During an interview in EGM, when Itagaki was asked to name the most positive thing about the Tekken series all he responded with was "The name, because it's short." 151.151.73.167 14:08, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Weasel words[edit]

I've now removed an anonymous user's additions twice because it entire consisted of phrases that began with Many complain..., Some find his comments..., and Popular rumour suggests....

Could this user please refer to Wikipedia:Avoid weasel words and he'll see why I removed them. Also it should be obvious why 'Popular rumour suggests' was removed, thanks. Marasmusine 06:33, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The sources says itself.
Hello, anonymous user. What source are you talking about? Perhaps you can elaborate:
  • Many complain in the gaming industry that his remarks are immature and superficial. Who and when?
  • Some find comments of his hypocritical. Who?
  • Popular rumor suggest... Can this be backed up with fact?
  • Many complain that... Who?
The linked interviews don't provide this information. If you can fill in the blanks, great, otherwise these weasel words shouldn't stay in the article. Marasmusine 13:32, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm going to remove these then :> Marasmusine 08:08, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Now that Dead Or Alive Xtreme 2 is now complete he says he is currently working on Ninja Gaiden 2 for the Xbox 360 and will likely remain Xbox 360 exclusive as Team Ninja will be very busy with other projects. Is there a source for this? He has hinted vaguely at Ninja Gaiden 2, but to my knowledge he has never explicitly acknowledged this. I removed it for now.

Problems with article[edit]

Hello, I'm a casual wiki user, so I don't know for sure if I'm right brining this up, but I have a few problems with this article, and I believe it doesn't reflect the kind of content Wikipedia usualy delivers.

My main problem is, probably due to readily aviable on the Internet in English, only two paragraphs are about his past, information about birthdate, birthplace, influences, youth, etc. etc. etc. etc. are all absent, but rather a hearty bulk of it is about criticism of other game franchises and criticsm from gamers. I'm glad to see someone removed the "immature" remarks comment, though.

Another thing is I'd like to see the article cleaned up a bit, which I will try to do myself, with the best of my ability. Some things I sugguest is adding an infobox (If we can ever learn anything about this guy!), finding his name in Japanese kana\kanji, and a few other things to improve the visaul quality of the article.

I am going to do some edits, but there are some things I can't do, due to the prementioned lack of content avaible in English on the Internet.

WikiProject class rating[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 16:41, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite[edit]

I have rewritten the article addressing the concerns of above, eliminating the weasel words, and adding a few personal information. The personal information is however few due to the desire and respect of family privacy among the Japanese media. Sources have also been added in. Further materials will be added in later. Hopefully we can portray a better and objective picture of the man without any personal grievances against him or his opinions inserted in. We probably can get this article to a B-class if we can do that.Jappalang 03:43, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Impressive rewrite, well done. Upgraded to B-class. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 14:41, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

VG Assessment[edit]

This is in regards to the request at the VG Assessment page. I'm rating this article as B-class, Low-importance. Here are a few tips to improve it!

Move the sexual harassment scandal to the bottom- it's less important than his career. The article also has a lot of tense shifts (going from joined to has brought 2 paragraphs later, for example) as well as other grammar mistakes ("The series take place", "Ninja Gaiden is Itagaki's efforts to develop"). There are also several tone problems- remember that WP is an encyclopedia, and should have an "encyclopedic" or neutral tone. This means that having almost 10 paragraphs in a row (all a bit too short as well) that start as "Itagaki [blank]s this" or Itagaki [other blank]s that. There is enough information and references for me to give it a B, though a low one. Keep it up! --PresN 22:35, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the comments. I agree the prose is an issue ("Itagki [blank]s this"). I will attempt to correct this some time after my vacation. In the meantime, I have added more information on his education background, and his appointments at Tecmo. Jappalang 22:06, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

what ever..all I know is..Uncle Itakagi enjoyed that woman's ass:P reminds me of the episode of the Simpsons whereas Homer was accused of enjoying that baby sitters ass:) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.162.139.226 (talk) 21:03, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Itagaki hating on Tekken and Sony[edit]

The Tekken hating and Sony antipathy has a unique origin, the story is somewhat like this: "In 1997 to promote Tekken 2 launch for PlayStation, the producers published an radio advert ridiculing Dead or Alive game. Itagaki becomes very offended and tried to defend his franchise on ocidental magazines but was ignored. The competition with Tekken emerged in ends 90s and he become very hatefull with the Tekken franchise. To support and promote Tekken on PlayStation consoles, Sony was obsviously achieved Itagaki antipathy." There's even a legend that says Itagaki never touched a Sony SDK, his game ports were made by other Team Ninja members, this is confirmed recently even on Ninja Gaiden Sigma port. The sources are on 90s videogame magazines, the whole case was well covered in 1997-98 with the first Sony-hate statement supporting Sega Saturn over PlayStation. It's a hard work collecting such old off-line information, I think the case if reported and sourced can clarify lots of insane behavior assigned to him. --Ciao 90 (talk) 18:18, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

date error[edit]

I do not know what the correct date is, but at the end of the 'career' section, it is mentioned that he was quoted on June 3, 2008, which is theday that Ninja Gaiden 2 came out, not X number of day before. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.81.124.118 (talk) 01:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1UP received the news on Monday (June 02) night, and I corrected the date and context as such. Jappalang (talk) 15:50, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sexual harrassment "charges"[edit]

Was he actually charged? Seems odd to incriminate him in the heading and acquit him in the body. I've tweaked the wording to something a little less Daily Mail. Jaz Mcdougall (talk) 08:49, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possible source[edit]

This has information about how Itagaki almost quit the game industry because of the PS2 version of Dead or Alive 2 and was saved by Aerosmith and the movie Armageddon. It's a pretty good story. Link. GamerPro64 17:52, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

URGENT ISSUE: WARRIOR GAME[edit]

Hello, I've been investigating warrior game, it looks like a scam with no real involvement on itagaki. I think keeping up on his page is damaging to those interested in NFTs, those who follow itagaki, and itagaki himself. I would recommend removing it or adding a warning about it until we get in person confirmation from him, or a better translation for his content. Graybloodd (talk) 10:41, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
