In an interview right after the fight, on film, a sportscaster who disliked Galento tried to get Louis to disparage his punch. "Did that Galento man really hit you hard?" Louis replies, "Well, he hit me hard enough to knock me down, I guess that's hard enough." "Well, you got up again. How does he compare for example with Jack Roper, ah, whose punch was supposed to be pretty solid? Out there on the coast." Jackie Gleason claimed to have been knocked out by Galento.[edit]

In an interview by Rocky Marciano, Jackie Gleason claimed to have been knocked out by Tony Galento in front of the Miami Club in Newark NJ. Galento had been heckling Gleason during his act, and Gleason challenged him to a fight outside in the street.
