Verbatim quotes
[edit]User 117.199.132.12 - if you wish to include material taken from other sources (such as the passages you quoted verbatim from The Hindu) you must rewrite them, and in neutral language to boot. Moreover, the information should be accurate and, more importantly, appropriate for a biographical article summarizing the subject's long career.Spinaci (talk) 20:00, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

[edit]The following:
Further responses to the program were highly critical of MacMahon's comments [1], drawing attention to his self-appointed status as a guardian of the tradition.
uses as its source, an anonymous discussion from thesession.org, which is a fine organization, but I am troubled by the use of anonymous sources, and in particular by the author's description of "self-appointed status as a guardian of the tradition". Can the author/writer source the assertion that MacMahon is, in fact a "self-appointed guardian"? This approach might work in the Daily Mail, but it is most unbecoming in an encyclopedia. Please reconsider. Thanks. Renglish (talk) 05:08, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
- I agree completely with the above comments. Given the very short length of the present article, and MacMahon's long career in traditional music, the inclusion of this paragraph is highly questionable.Spinaci (talk) 16:38, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Immigrate / emigrate
[edit]MacMahon being an Irishman, the article was written from an Irish perspective. Consequently Joe Cooley, another Irishman, was described as having "emigrated" to the US. Someone, presumably with an American perspective, changed this to "immigrated," which seems rather silly. I have sidestepped this difficulty of perspective by writing "left for the USA". Basically he went over there for a while and came back to Ireland to die. :-) Spinaci (talk) 11:55, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
